A lot of old-time community members have expressed fear that the influx of noobs will undermine the community's civility. But on the rare occasions in the last few weeks that nastiness has broken out on the OVF, the rowdiest people generally seem to have pre-2005 registration dates.

It always happens like that. Though we can still blame the newbs cause the oldschool posters are usually going off on them, and if they weren't there, they wouldn't have anyone to go off on.

I think a lot of it is due to the mentality that says "If the original thread on this topic has been submerged for a while, the topic is dead and should not be breached again". That clearly doesn't hold water. Me and a lot of others have changed opinions on certain things over the past year or so...and when you add in the newbs, there's usually something new that pops up in the discussion of rehashed topics.
Besides, a lot of us are just plain bored. :D I'd rather read new comments on old ideas than read nothing at all.
