Hey guys, I recently bought a mic from Radioshack (more specifically, a "Lightweight Stereo Multimedia Headset") and it doesn't really work. I don't know whether it's just I'm not plugging it in the right place (I've tried every plug on the back of my computer) or if there's something I gotta set on my comp. The sound and everything works, but whenever I'm on Teamspeak, people can hear themselves but not me. And when I have music playing, they can hear that as well.
Any ideas on what I gotta do?

here are a few suggestions -
make sure that it is positioned correctly.
turn DOWN the mic gain - if they can hear background noises, it's turned up too high. If it is too high, when you start talking it might cut out to prevent feedback.
run the mic test from inside the Windows sounds control in control panel, make sure that is working the way it is supposed to.
run the loopback test inside teamspeak, and make sure you can hear yourself before trying to talk to others.

Erm, how exactly do I turn down the mic gain?

Ok I think the way to calibrate the Mic pick up in XP is:
Ctrl Panel> Sounds and audio devices >Voice> Test hardware.
Tweek the volume in the test to ensure you aren't maxing out (or not registering). I suspect that should fix the problem, the mic gain seems to cause most of the choppy/can't hear problems in TS. However, if you can't get windows to detect you speaking into the mic at all then I's suspect a hardware problem (i.e. broken mic or plugged in the wrong jack).
Gift.
