NVidia just announced they were releasing three new cards, including the 7950GT. I just picked up a 7900GT. I was wondering, if when the 7950GT becomes available in stores, could I SLI them? Both cards would have 512MB video RAM, but I heard you could SLI cards with different RAM (you'd just lose the extra RAN on the larger card).

I don't think so you need to match models to SLi from what I understand so you can sli a pair of 7900s but not a 7900 and a 7600 or a 7900 and a 7950.

Alright, thanks for the info. I will probably end up sticking with my single video card for now until DX10 comes out, since it was a hassle to find it.

it used to be you had to have the same make model and revision to SLi two cards together they have come quite a was so you can now sli an eVGA 7900 and a Gainward 7900

or at least they are supposed to allow you to do that very soon

They have been able to do that for quite some time. The manufacturers don't have to match, but the generation and sub-generation do.

So no, you can't do a 7900 GT and a 7950 GX2 even though they are technically the same base type.

But yeah, stick with what you have till the DX10s show up since they are right around the corner. Even if you could do what you asked, I'd still say wait for the DX10s.
