View Full Version : Sounds inverted on my headphones?

I recently followed most of the $1500 build. I have the Creative X-Fi ExMusic sound card.
I have installed the drivers and everything. Here is my problem:
I believe my sound is inverted, or something. For instance, when I do the Channel sound test:

The left speaker blinks up, but I hear "Right Channel" and vice versa for the right speaker. I have looked through various audio property menu's and am unable to come up with a conclusion as to why this is happening.
Are there any known causes for this?

I think I heard about that happening once with onboard sound, because the motherboard maker had actually wired up the connector wrong.
On the X-Fi... I have no idea. Are you sure your speakers are plugged in correctly? Have you tried using a different port on the back of the soundcard? Have you made sure the jack is all the way plugged in?
I know it isn't much to go on...but that's really weird and those are just a few of the questions I'd ask myself first if I was sitting in front of your PC.

Wearing the headphones backwards would do it. :D

It's very likely it's just coming through that way. Find the creative folder in your start menu and run the diagnostics program as opposed to the control panel. There should be away to reverse left and right speakers. What speakers or speaker configuration are you using? 2.1? 5.1? If it's 5.1 it's quite possibly you have them plugged in wrong, so it's hard to say. That's about all I have for ya without more information.
EDIT: Wait I just noticed your in headphone mode but you didn't really mention anything about headphones, so which is it speakers or headphones?

Title says headphones, so I'm guessing that they are only using headphones.
Otherwise I'm sure we would have suggested they plugged the speakers into the wrong plugs. :p

It's plugged in correctly. I'm not wearing them backwards.

I can't do "Assignment" or "Polarity" because the buttons are grayed out. Any reason why?

Did you do the full software install or a partial? You may have accidentally left something out. Yeah, I am having a slow day, sorry about that earlier Rabbit.

Yeah, I had done it right.
Eh... I got a new headset today, and, it works fine. I guess it was my old headset being dumb.

Make sure the drivers are new as possible, too. The channels on my 5.1 were messing up badly until I installed new drivers. Weird, but could very well have been the cause, or could be the cause of future problems.

By the way, since you got the X-Fi, I highly recommend *not* using their GUI to manage modes and such.
I use the X-Fi Mode Changer, which solved some of the bugs I had with the software they gave me.
