Edit: removed a bunch of info that I analyzed wrong. Sorry about that.

I'd recommend a x1950 Pro ($190) over that. According to Tom's Chart (http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html?modelx=33&model1=607&model2=528&chart=197), you'll get better performance and none of the SLI troubles. Considering a SLI ready power supply is going to eat a least a few of those bucks, I'm sure anyone with budget enough to get 2 7600 GTs instead of 1 has enough wiggle room to squeeze in the x1950 Pro.

The 7800 GT unexpectedly seems to be another intriguing sweet spot for SLI at $300.

A single 7950 GT would equal or better that and is ~$275. Evga 7950 GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130066)

Tom's - 7950 GT vs. dual 7800 GT (http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html?modelx=33&model1=581&model2=526&chart=196)

You don't want to go dual card unless...
- You can not afford to spend a lot of $ at once (you are buying 1 card now and then getting the second later)
- You can afford two of the highest end cards every generation

There is no point getting dual cards when there is a single more powerful one available. (Particularly since you can get an 8800 GTS for $400 that would put that dual 7800 GT setup to utter shame.)

Tom's - 8800 GTS vs. dual 7800 GT (http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html?modelx=33&model1=608&model2=526&chart=199)

It should be noted that if a non-8800 GPU costs more than $195, then it's worthless for SLI because a single 8800GTS costs $390 and will be faster.

As above, and I've said elsewhere many times, you only want to go dual card under those 2 conditions. As everyone (including you) has pointed out - a single more powerful card is the better deal.

Aye, there's really no reason to go SLI with such old cards...you're much better off buying a single newer card.

Yeah, I should have done more research on how these cards actually perform than relying on the ranking list.

Whoa! $65 or so more gets you an x1950 PRO, in either PCIe or AGP, assuming you can find one and that the lack of product doesn't drive up prices.

Has the x1950pro ever been anywhere near two digits, much less $65? Lowest prices on pricegrabber and pricewatch is $190.
