As I sit here in giddy anticipation of this weekend, I thought about the fact that it's been a couple of years since I played in the MMO world. Have there been any significant etiquette changes in the community? Such as:
When in a group do you take turns looting or do you use the /split to handle the cash?
Is the /random still the way to settle the more valuable loots?
You would be suprised how much you forget while sweating in the desert. You would also be AMAZED at how many military guys/girls played MMO's.

Don't know about other folks but I prefer splitting the cash. Loot's another question ...I allways seem to wind up with people who use a loot macro. I never seem to be able to click it in time! Random seems like a good alternative.
...and thanks for serving. You have my appreciation :D

Yeah, I think dividing the cash is the best way to go, it makes sure everyone gets an equal amount. Items are one thing (sorta, but there isnt really a fair way to distribute items fairly while keeping things simple) but cash is a whole different thing, especially if the game requires you to repair your gear and buy lots of spells. :)
It's still a good idea to try and keep watch on item distribution though, especially if you are the leader. Sometimes people end up never getting anything, and it's a nice gesture to let someone have an item every so often if their luck is horrible. This rule is in no way an official unwritten rule, but it might give you some good rep. :)

I remember in EQ I liked to have a point guy to loot the cash and /split 600 when he looted around 600pp worth (a few sp/cp doesn't matter.) Common items we would rotate loot, and use /ran 100 200 for the rare or uber loots. (If same uber loot drops 2nd time the guy who won it the first time is not allowed to roll.) I always liked this system in a group, but didn't know if the community had changed since the MMO crowd seems to have gotten younger. (How does a tween afford a subscription?)
Thanks for the posts and thanks Greydog. I am happy to have served those who appreciate it.

For the most part loot rules change on a per group basis. I for 1 am a proponent of a CAWU or NBG system. ANd a master looter to split the cash at the end is always nice... Having a ML help to speed things up.

Ok, so what is "a CAWU or NBG system?" My head is still filled with military acronyms and NBG is probably not Nuclear/Bio-hazard Gear. I agree that having a Master Looter speeds things along. (That way I can concentrate on meditating/chatting on the channels):o

I'm with Zakavar, split coin and random for regular loot. In cases for uncommon/rare loot we use need before greed and if two players can use it then /ran 100. Also for random loot some people really do have crappy luck, I tend to give them a few items.

That's cool, good to see the same basic rules of courtesy are still around.
Thanks guys, see you in Telon!
