About fricken time. I was beginning to wonder if it was going into another re-design phase or something since it missed it's end of the year '06 target. :p
Don't we already have a Tabula Rasa thread though? Though I made one. Odd.
*squints at site*
Of course they don't have the series 8. At least they have proper core speeds, heh.

You probably aren't supposed to mention that, but good to know since this thread is 4 months old and I was beginning to wonder if anything was done with those apps.
Guess I'll keep my fingers crossed. Got into the CoH and CoV betas, as well as Auto Assault (all under NCSoft's roof).

Somebody give me the highlights... what's tabula rasa all about?
I know it's Sci-fi, and that the UO guy is behind it...but other than that, not much.

That's what the real Tabula Rasa thread (http://www.silkyvenom.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14230) is for. :p
In short...
Sci-Fi based classes
magic type spells via the ancients (you learn them from obelisks and other ways
it's got a strategy twist in you can do real time things that alter your character's chances (such as you can dodge by moving to avoid AE, but you'll take a penalty to hit others.)
Zero PvP, 100% PvE (this is to keep them focused on good adventures / scripted encounters)
some areas are instanced just for you / your group - these areas are highly scripted, some are shared with others (I think some go up to 100 peeps fighting in an area)
Zero respawn (though reinforcements may come in via drop ship)
some areas are large and battlezoneish like where peeps fight the baddies for control and the nodes / areas of control will move (think like Planetside, only PvE only)
you can "clone" yourself at presumably any point, that way you can level up the character and then return to the cloned build if you don't like the way that your stats and such progressed (think about this like an odd form of respecing)
oh... hmm I thought I just wasn't supposed to tell about the game. guess I should have read alittle more.
Depends on the NDA. Most just cover the content of the game. Many go all the way to covering that you can't even say you are in beta.

Thanks rabb1t...
Wow, that actually sounds pretty cool. Definitely going to go read about it. They don't have something really stupid like RMT built into the game, do they?

I read the website and checked out some of the videos and interviews. Definitely looks cool... I think I'll check it out when it launches. No more following games through development for me... at least for a while. I've got enough gray hair.

Hope you didn't go too far back. It's been entirely redesigned like 3x. If it looked like the official site then it's the current version.
The good news is that it's supposed to launch this year I guess. Originally they were targeting nearly a year ago, so it's way behind.

Forget what that stands for, but that’s like peeps selling items and gold right? To my knowledge, no, they don't. I don't even recall if they have mentioned anything about the economy / loot system yet.
Not much news around about it (that's recent). They are being pretty hush-hush about it.

I got the current info... there's a ton you can get just from the long G4TV interview with Richard Garriott. I think it sounds and looks very cool (I downloaded the latest high-def video of gameplay).
He does mention that they are trying to figure out a way for RMT (real money transactions) to be used without wrecking the game.
You just made me think twice about my application
Why? Do I smell bad or something? *checks pits*

Your oder has nothing to do with it :p, once I seen your reaction to another beta my memories of vanguard beta jumped out at me. I thought about it and I will just proceed with my application. Vanguard being my first beta I think ill see how this one goes, thats if I get in.

"Beta" can vary a lot in meaning. I've gotten into betas that were they were very clearly early phases, where they were doing focused testing and things were highly unstable, and then I've gotten into others - Mythos is the most recent example - where the game was technically still in "Alpha" state, just now moving to "Beta", but it's got nearly all of it's content, its up and running 24/7 now, it's totally completely stable, and systems all the way down to like a P4 2 gig system with 1 gig of ram and an Nvdia series 5 can run it without too much trouble.
So yeah, the phase of the game can really vary depending on the company and what they name the phases.
I've been in games that only had 3 beta phases and others that had around 20. The term "Beta" really doesn't tell you much in terms of game stability or how many of the features are in and functional.
Also, what the game is doing technologically will really vary how ... unstable ... beta is. Like with VG they are trying to push a lot of new and different technologies in how the game is "seamless". Yet, something like Tabula Rasa are using 'tried and true' target specs and things like instancing, so they aren't "pushing" technology and should, in theory, be a lot more stable because of it. Other upcoming betas, like Hellgate:London or Age of Conan, again, might be trouble if you are one of the DX10 code testers, as that's brand new tech.
