Now we know what he was up to (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/29/news_6128319.html) when he dropped out of the public eye. ;)
"Dave, you have a show to make."
"Shut up, man, I need to finish my Onyxia key."
The article mentions, and I find this really funny, how amused Dave was at all the "Rick James" rehashing that goes on on his server.
Anyway, this is another data point indicating the increasing legitimation of MMOs in mainstream American culture.

Isn't it Kurt Schilling (Red Sox Pitcher) that plays EQ2 and formerly EQlive? Yeah, MMOs aren't going away.

Yeah, he's pretty hardcore apparently. I imagine that kept life bearable during his long stretch on the DL.

Interesting observation Havelock.
I daydream about the games that might be when big money gets behind the MMO genre.

Yeah, imagine a game with a 100 million dollar budget. Isn't VG a 30 million dollar or so budget? Which is still good (very good) but a game with a hundred million dollaar budget...I can't conceive of it.

Sorry to reply to my own post, but I had a fresh idea.
Actaully if MMOGs get more mainstream popularity 100 million would be on the small side. Big budget film get 100 mil on the regular because they can bank on at least 10 million people seeing it in the first weekend. An MMO has that constant revenue stream that if you can maintain adds up to huge numbers. Lets say they bank on selling 1 million copies, thats 50 million dollars from box sales alone and (at 10 dollars a month) 120 mil in the first year from subscriptions. Thats not even mainstream yet, multiple that number by ten and you have mainstream. So, a 500 million dollar budget is not inconceivable if a game becomes "mainstream". What could you do with that?

I'm pretty sure Curt Schilling does play (I hate him, regardless...but that's just by default, 'cause I'm a Yankee fan.)
Also, the dude who writes a popular comic (can't think of the name) that's in most newspapers plays WoW pretty frequently.
They usually don't reveal much, though, so they don't get bugged :)
