I can't get these stupid chat windows to do what I want. All I want to do is change the name of the default window to "Main" and then make a new window called "Chat" and put all of the "human-generated" channels in there, and leave the rest in main with combat as the alternate tab in main's window. So on the UI I'll have two separate chat windows, one with a single "chat" tab that'll be the default place to talk into, and one with two tabs, Main and Combat. Pretty simple right?

WRONG!!!!!

Vanguard simply refuses to save it. If you make the changes, they have a "fair" chance of working, though your new window's tab name will disappear (maybe a feature of when there's only one tab in a window), but otherwise fine. Then you log out. And exit VG. And log back in. TADA you have "chat" and "combat" back in your original window, the second window is ALSO named "chat" but unfortunately you have ZERO channels appearing. Oh, and remember the chat channels you took away from the "Main" window (since that was the old chat) before? They're nowhere at all.

I even went into VGSettings.xml and tried to hack it to exactly what I want. Let's just say that weirdness resulted, and it STILL didn't work. One theory I had is that it MIGHT have something to do with the 'chatRecreateOverride="1"' field, but considering it was present for both windows, and I didn't screw with it, I highly doubt that's it.

I've deleted my settings file, worked completely cleanly, closed EVERY "chat settings" window before modifying them, and even made sure I NEVER doubled-up on names of tabs between logging in/out, and it STILL will not behave.

This is game-breaking for me. If I can't have my chat windows SOMEWHAT sane, I'm not sticking around. Your chat bars is where you get a LOT of your relavent information, and if I'm forced to have all of my chat in a window that gets spammed by other info that I WANT to see, just not THERE, then it's just moronic to lose players over such simple things.

Other MMOs have done this right on the first try. You guys may not have a perfect interface, but at least make it WORK! Right now it is VERY broken.

I cant seem to get my chat windows to save either, the setting seem to work ok then when i relog they have reverted back to default (the position is still fine, but the content, channels, opacity etc have gone back to default.)

Anyone got any ideas why this is?

All I want to do is change the name of the default window to "Main" and then make a new window called "Chat" and put all of the "human-generated" channels in there, and leave the rest in main with combat as the alternate tab in main's window.

I can't understand why you would want to change the windows name. I'm currently working with three windows. One is the default window, containing combat and the other tab (forgot the name). The second window contains the unimportant spam chat I'm logged into (continent, shout, ooc, say etc.). The last window contains all texts explicitely adressed to my toon (groupsay, tells etc.). I don't really care how these windows are labeled as I know what's in them. They don't move, so top left is always group and tells. This works fine, gets saved and stays like this after relogging.

My only problem with the chatwindow is that for some reason it likes to change the channel to /say. First thing I do after logging in is changing the default channel to /groupsay. Then everything is fine until I do /say something. Then the channel setting reverts to /say. Also this setting is not saved when I log out, so everytime I log in I have to change the default chat channel. If I'm doing anything wrong there, please help me out. If not, well then please make the settings safe, Sigil. I don't want to have to change and rechange the chatchannel all the time.

thanks

The default chat channel changes based on the last channel you spoke in, be it group, guild, region say or what have you. Say is probably what it defaults to when you first log in. It does this automatically, and there's no way I've found to stop it. It's really effing annoying.
