I'm not sure on instruments, but if ya have any other questions just ask. Bard is my main. :)

With composing, you just click the song bit you want and it will open a window with all the available song bits you have for that area. From there it is kind of similar to a collectable card game deck building strategy - your challenge is to make good 'decks' for different situations.

Your options will be fairly limited until around 8th or so. At that point you'll have enough different bits you may want different songs.

To start I went with a balanced combat song (one that uses less energy than I recover per second) (you basically start with a balanced combat song), a heavy combat song (one that is all damage based and I don't care what it's mana drain is), and a run speed song (obviously run speed, but balanced in that it doesn't use mana). I think its around 8 you get regeneration, so I made a song for that.

My big suggestion is that you want a few different songs for different situations. There really isn't any need to go overboard and create a song for every monster, but you may want a couple in each category.

As above, I have 2 combat songs, and once I get enough defensive abilities I'll probably have a defensive song and a couple of different resist type songs, etc.

PS - I have a different hotkey for each song. To do that you just type /playsong "songname" in the macro to play the song. Also I have a line that goes /g *sings* bla bla bla so peeps know what I'm swapping songs to.

Side note: The song description shows in the mouse over when peeps mouse over the song icon. So if you want others to know what the song does (helpful for other bards) you can type out more details there.
