Right Now I have a Decent comp and on Second to lowest Setting(And Some Tweaks) I get around 11Fps in open land. in cities get 5-6FPS. Now U guess I should tell u what I have before I ask the question.
AMD Athlon 64 2.2GHZ
Nvidia Geforce 6500 256mg(PCI Express 16x)
1Gig Crucial Ram(Lower End)
Onboard Sound
Factory Cooling Inside Case

Now I am upgrading to
Amd Athlon 64 2.2Ghz(Stayed Same) :)
Nvidia 7900GS 256Mg(PCI Express 16X)
2Gigs Patriot Gaming Ram
OnBoard Sound

Misc Cooling:
ThermalTake Case 80mm Case Fan
AOC Evercool CPU Heatsink/Fan
Masscool Thermal Gel

Will i be able to Run Vanguard on highest Setting or second to highest setting Good? I love the game and wanna play it with the graphics turned up as much as I can.

I would guess you could run the game satisfactorily at balanced with a bit of extra eye candy turned on, or at quality with some eye candy turned down a bit. It will also depend abit upon which resolution you hope to run at.

Your going to take a big hit with the onboard sound. Its not that big of a deal in all games but with how taxing VG is, you will loose frames with that. Others here (see X-Fi thread) have tried disabling their onboard sound and noted marked increase in frames.

Depending on the resolution you plan on running you may want to look at a vid card with 512 RAM.

I disabled my onboard sound right on the motherboard and got a whole 2FPS improvement in my average frame rate going from generic softtware driver, to no sound, and no sound card period.

It's funny, I get told that I would notice the performance boost more if I had a single core CPU, but I have a single core CPU.

I would highly suggest trying it out for yourself by disabling sound completely and seeing if you actually get a worthy FPS boost before buying a higher end sound card for VG performance alone.

You might also consider the fact that direct 3D sound is being phased out and soon all you will have is software sound regardless of your sound card.

I was just reading a thread on this board a few minutes ago containing many posts from SB owners saying they can no longer use the hardware driver in VG and had to revert to the software driver.

I wonder if your only 2FPS was because your system was overall better than the other guy that posted. Who knows I guess....I went from AC97 onboard to my AC-1 before this game when I was playing Battlefield 2142 and got about 8FPS.

As a sidenote, the AC-1 does still support hardware mode with Vista. Definitely not a reason alone to get a $180 sound card, but it was good to see :)

Id think youed be ok balanced.I dont think youed get much more from the 7900GS.It's a 20 pipe card (20 PixelShaders, 7 VertexShaders, 20 TextureUnits, 16 RasterOperatorUnits). To play at max youll probably need a 8800GTX,7950GX2 or a 1950XTX.

My Rez is 1280 x 1024 (LCD 17" 1280x1024 is max rez it can go to)
I have a 500 Watt Power supply (Ultra Infinity)

** I am not worried about sound card to much. Most of the time I shut ssound off in game options and put music on.

As for the video card, I am using something Alot less, and with some tweaking got it at High Performance Setting(And a few other Modifactions to settings) got 15+fps in open land and 10+ in cities.

But had to call over a friend who knows how to tweak parts and setting to get it done. :)

I think I could run the game on High Quality Setting with some tweaking and get 25-30 fps. Will find out tommorow.
