If ya ask me they killed themselves when they decided to make 4x4 it's own socket type. Hello, you just volunteered yourself for a ton more research and development by splitting your CPU line instead of making the 4x4 pin-compatible with everything else you are doing!
Had it been the same AM2, AM2+, AM3 socket line like everything else, I’m sure they would have had all of the enthusiasts following them in a heartbeat. The chance to have a system with double the cores of an Intel system (provided they could keep up in terms of cores)? Yeah, I’m sure tons of super-high end peeps would have loved that. It’s own socket where you can’t sell the older cores and can’t upgrade them as easily because you have a much lower number of options? That’s just 754/939/940 all over again. You’d think they would have learned the first time.
But, I digress.
