Today's newegg prices with a few zipzoomfly prices where newegg had none. CPUs listed in very rough order of gaming performance (and I do mean rough, CPUs will trade places depending on the game).

Intel E6850 $280
Intel E6750 $195
AMD 6400+ "Black Edition" $216 at zipzoomfly
AMD 6400+ $209
AMD 6000+ $160
Intel E6550 $175
AMD 5600+ $140
AMD 5400+ $125 (OEM only, retail at zipzoomfly is $138)
AMD 5200+ $123
Intel E4500 $145 at newegg (ClubIT has it for $133.50 and free shipping)
AMD 5000+ "Black Edition" $130
AMD 5000+ $120
AMD 4800+ $100
Intel E4400 $134
AMD 4600+ $90

When AMD says "Black Edition", that means the multiplier is unlocked, which allows overclockers to run both the motherboard and the CPU at maximum overclocked speeds. When the multiplier is locked, either the motherboard or the CPU will give out first, leaving one or the other underutilized (from the overclocker's perspective, anyway).

What it really is is so that you can't tell when you've OCed so far you set the chip on fire and burnt it.

hehehehehe

Come on Phenom! I'd like to see things get a bit more competitive again... It's just a shame that AMD is so much smaller. They are probably almost killing themselves trying to compete with Intel's crazy price cuts.

It's awesome to see the entire lineup be so low priced though, strictly from a consumer point of view.

If ya ask me they killed themselves when they decided to make 4x4 it's own socket type. Hello, you just volunteered yourself for a ton more research and development by splitting your CPU line instead of making the 4x4 pin-compatible with everything else you are doing!

Had it been the same AM2, AM2+, AM3 socket line like everything else, I’m sure they would have had all of the enthusiasts following them in a heartbeat. The chance to have a system with double the cores of an Intel system (provided they could keep up in terms of cores)? Yeah, I’m sure tons of super-high end peeps would have loved that. It’s own socket where you can’t sell the older cores and can’t upgrade them as easily because you have a much lower number of options? That’s just 754/939/940 all over again. You’d think they would have learned the first time.

But, I digress.
