Reportedly, Bethesda has already sunk 300 million into the project... (really?); here's what Bethesda's Pet Hines said about the astronomical amount of money:
"I don't think that this funding changes our focus in terms of what we are about and are trying to accomplish. The additional resources will allow us to expand our publishing efforts-both our own titles and those of other studios-and to pursue development of more titles, working with internal and external development teams."
|
Hmm, $300 million would be a huge amount of money to invest in a game. But reading what Hines said makes it sound like that figure is not all for the MMO development.
It will be nice to see a TES MMO. We will probably have to wait for several years.

Vanilla Morrowind, and especially Oblivion was flawed imo. It took LOD texture packs, AFLevelling, DarnUI, Oscuro, etc etc to make it really shine. The community brought the game to life and fixed a load of stuff.
Bethesda liked the levelling system in Oblivion. I don't really trust them to make an MMO, especially as all the important stuff will be serverside.. where the community can't fix it. TES are good games that become great because of the content the community provides.

Would be cool if they could pull it off. Having a world w/ lore to build off of, yet still able to change whatever you like, is a good step. Hopefully the combat will be better than the previous two installments, hehe.
And 300 mil is rediculous, makes me wonder if it was quoted correctly.
Edit: prz remove my purple and that fugly tag!

They could potentially really have a massive hit here, if they execute well. I'll take the 300 mil investment as a good sign, that they are willing to commit and do what it takes to do it right. As we all know potential doesn't always pan out, but this is definitely one to follow as more information becomes available.
I know its off topic and forgive me if its too personal to ask, especially coming from someone who is critical about the game, and most likely hasn't said the greatest things one could say about your involvement with VG, how are things for you post Vanguard?
And of course I wouldn't want you to burn any bridges, but can you offer us any insider insight about VG and the recent happenings surrounding it, or VG's past beyond what you have already posted in various places?

I'm doing well, thanks for asking I started at Rockstar the week after I left Vanguard and have been enjoying myself tremendously since then.
As for the insider insight, I'm gonna keep my yapper shut for the time being. I'd like to think that I still have a lot of friends that currently work on VG and I'd hate for my large mouth to endanger or make their jobs more difficult. Things like the F13 interviews add stress to our job (mind you, is the fault of the interviewees, not F13) so I'm tryin my best to avoid situations like that. On the other hand, SoE treated us like ass and fired 50+ of my friends so we'll see how long that I can hold out with that excuse
Regardless, I wish most of you SV folks the best and hope that y'all, if you're still playing VG, are still having fun

Never! At least not until the tell-all book. Wow, there is a lot of stuff I would like to find out about. For example, I just learned that Taranis left Sigil in Nov 2006, but we never knew. I know, many of us have followed the company for too long.
$300M for a MMO? Egads, where could it possibly all be spent? OK, so you hire a lot of developers to build content (just to have lots of it eventually). A core of programmers would be building the mechanism, but you cannot dump too much money into that. Are they researching and building a server farm with that money?
Just don't hold your breath. A budget like that implies one thing - a long time.

Hehe, I'm afraid you'll have to wait for a post-mortem or something before you get all of that juicy soap-opera drama that will give ya something to talk about for a week until somethin else comes up
Back on topic, I wonder how they'll handle classes/skills in it. An Oblivion/Morrowind-style system would be fairly intriguing.

The Sigil team roster was updated properly when Taranis left. Just not a lot of people looked apparently

Now we'll never know if VG will be on the 360!

I'd like to see them carry forward the feature of aligning yourself with a chosen guild (fighters, thieves, dark brotherhood etc) and skills/bonuses be derived from that.
Oh, and skooma ftw.

I'd definitely wear rags and wander around the city begging players for copper to support my skooma habit.

That's all the world needs: another MMOG.
I will ignore it for all time any of the following is announced:
1.) Experienced based leveling system.
2.) Item-centric carrot system.
3.) Separate PvE and PvP servers.
4.) Oblivion gates

Spirit, you know the rules. The bet was only good for the first year after release...
