It's been like two weeks of exploding I think.

The parent company that bought uberguilds a while back was down for major overhaul. I guess they are getting back up.

Not that they had the decency to let us know or anything...I just did a little digging. I actually didn't know uberguilds had been purchased until my research this week. Hopefully they weren't purchased by a company affiliated with secondary markets in MMOs, cause that would suck...but at this point I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Anyway, good to see everyone again.

We are hosted by uberguilds, which was purchased by GuildCafe, which has now changed its name and whole focus (which was the reason for the long outage, I think.

The new name is GamerDNA, and their new site is up and running, it would appear. Good for them. At any rate...these are the folks that own uberguilds (and by default, SV).

I don't get it... is their site just like a really huge forum and place for blogs and guild links or something?

I believe it's going to be a way to keep all your accomplishments and such from all your online gaming in one place... sort of an archive of your virtual life that's portable from one gaming community to the next (or at least centralized, and easy to link to). This is just from the limited reading I've done about it, but that's what it sounded like to me.

Personally, with the watery soup that is being served under the heading of MMORPG these days (and it appears the future doesn't hold much better), I'm not sure whether a site like that can take off in a really meaningful way.

People just don't have the pride in their accomplishments and loot like they did back in the days of slower, more meaningful advancement in games that had depth. The games these days provide a place for a much larger audience, but it's mostly made up of people who don't really give a crap about all the instant gratification they just received in whatever clone game they are playing this week.

I'm sure at some point the GamerDNA site will explain itself much better than I ever could. Who knows, maybe it'll work out for them.

Personally, I think true MMORPGs are gone...and with them a lot of the potential community building opportunities...maybe never to be seen again. Real communities aren't going to grow around games that people only play for a month or two.

Sad but very true i feel. This is why I am waiting with hope for EQClassic which is also very sad I know. They seem to be making good progress with the complete re-write of the server end of things. I am pretty sure it will not feel as good the second time around but if it can come to feel anywhere near as good then that will suit me.

mormorpeggers have just turned into a horrible genre of skinners boxes. these days it's all about some boring as shit by the numbers mechanics and not about the community. I've stopped playing them.

Ooh...this is becoming a little maudlin. However.....the Fozzster hit the nail squarely on the head. There are now so many games out there and the MTV generation's attention span so short that the harddrive time life expectancy of most games is probably no more than a month....or the period of the free trial.

I still play EQ2 as I invested so much time in it and still enjoy playing although the community is nowadays all but non existant. EVE is a good game for those wanting depth and no prospect of EVER getting to the end. Otherwise it's all pretty much shades of grey.

Let me second the EVE bumping. It truly is one of a kind. I have never see any other online game like it. If you are looking for an easy, lvl to 70 as soon as you can game then run in the other direction, EVE can be lead-pipe cruel. There is a very steep learning curve to the game (because of how different it is), they pretty much just show you how to fly your ship and then they say "Go get 'em tiger". The creators were going for a "sandbox", "do what-ever you want when you want to do it" kind of game. If ever you decide you wanna give it a try my ingame name is "Sscleetar" (i know it's a stupid name but I'm kind of stuck with it) feel free to send me an EVE-mail or chat me up, I can help out.

Ok, enough about that, back to the purpose of this thread. Welcome back everyone, I missed you. I was getting worried that you were not coming back and I got scared that I would have to find another nerd community learn about geeky stuff from.
