9800GTX are now 200 bucks
Newegg dropped the prices of the 9800GTX...
They are now the same price as the 8800GTS G92, which I bought from newegg just earlier this month. Man am I pissed! But good for those that want a 9800GTX...
But with that being said you are probably better off waiting till July for the 9800GTX +
I sent an email to newegg to ask if they will do some kind of refund/exchange.

Expect GT and GTS G92 prices to drop as well. The GTX+ is targeted at the current $220 the G92 is right now, so it should bump everything down.

These things happen in war. It's why we warn peeps to wait until new cards launch to make their decision. Normally jumps aren't this bad, but still.

Well newegg customer service says in order to do this, I would have to pay a restock fee, and pay for shipping and insurance. Even though I bought the 8800 GTS G92 within 30 days. Then I would have to place a seperate order for the 9800GTX. So just in the proccess of returning my item I'm going to probably have to pay anywhere up to $50-100 bucks in restocking and shipping costs for a $200 item. (I'm not sure how much insurance would cost) So much for newegg's customer service :P.
This too after the monitor debacle I've been dealing with. Ugh, computers are going to turn me into a bitter man.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's graphics card.
Sure, there are always going to be new products coming out. There is always going to be something faster that you could have gotten for the same or less money. It's the name of the game, and completely unavoidable.
It might have been good to wait a bit since the launch of new parts was so close, but honestly... the card you got is a very good, high-performing part. It should play all games very well at the resolutions you need. Enjoy your computer, and don't worry quite so much about what might have been. You'll just drive yourself crazy. Anyway, just my two cents.

Like I think I mentioned elsewhere, I'd recommend just not worrying about it. You've got plenty of power to hold you till the dye shrink of the 260, possibly even till a 360(?).
Wouldn't that be funny...
[Guy] What kind of graphics card do you got Bob?
[Bob] 360
[Guy] No, not console, graphic card.
[Bob] Yeah, I got a 360
hehehe

I wouldn't sweat it, my grandad 8800GTS 320M is still holding it's own, the x850 I had before that for 2 years was fine also.
Unless your into hardcore benchmarking it makes **** all difference. Everyone beyond MMO makers and Crytek figured that the larger market is more valuable, and anything made in the last 3 years should run.

Well newegg decided because i'm a valued customer they will offer me a one time waiver of half the restock fee. Depending on my shipping cost, I may end up bitinig the bullet to get an OC'ed 9800GTX which should be close to a 9800 GTX +
I do experience some slowdowns at 1920x1200 resolutions, and I believe I have everything set up correctly. The slowdowns are more noticible when many characters or in the case of company of heroes, many soldiers are moving around during a cutscene. That might be a limitation of the memory as compated to a 8800GTX that has more, but i'm willing to bet a 9800GTX will handle it better than my 8800 GTS G92.
I know as soon as you buy something in computers its obselte the day you purchase. But I was not expecting such a significant price drop of the 9800GTX, and the fact that it happened so close to my purchase date really hurts even if I'm getting 5% more fps, its still more and makes a difference on my min fps.
And as it was said before, I would expect the 8800GTS G92's to drop significantly, and probably a hell of a deal for budget builds. You can already get them for like $170 with rebates, so I could easily see them dropping to at least $150 or so.

So I have decided to keep the 8800GTS G92. Restock fee plus shipping fees would total to only about 35 bucks, but I also have a 30 dollar rebate coming in so basically I'm spending 65 more dollars for a 9800GTX. I also did the measurements and a 9800GTX may or may not fit in the Rosewill case I have and I do not want to take this risk. And by most accounts while the 9800GTX is more powerful, it only offers a few more fps in high res. I will just have to live with lower settings for now, which I wasn't expecting but its okay. I just thought the 8800GTS G92 would scream a lot faster than it acutally does. I guess in reality for max settings at high res I'm basically looking at either a 400 dollar card or SLI.
HOPEFULLY this card will last me a few years at high resolution and high settings with brand new games, but with the new 260 and 280 this type of card may be near the end of its life cycle. I may try to tinker a bit and overclock, but seeing as this card already comes overclocked I'm not sure if its a good idea or not. People say the 8400 processor i have is also very overclockable so I may try that too.
Okay time for me to stop worrying about this stuff and enjoy life and games.

Lol. Well actually I'm shooting for a PS3 for late summer. The games for 360 just don't interest me as much as what is going to be available on the PS3 in the future. I am hoping the PS3 gets another much needed price drop by the time Disgaea 3 is available (August). I was sort of expecting it would drop for MGS4, its flagship title so more copies would be sold, plus the cost to produce them are much cheaper now, and blu ray players are getting cheaper as well, plus stimuluous checks are being sent out at this time, but Sony just seems to want to be stubborn and not budge right now. Who knows if the 360 drops soon I might give Sony the finger.

My experience has been people jacking up prices to take as much of that stimulus check as they possibly can. (At least my Landlord did. He raised rent the day after the stimulus plan was announced, the jerkoff.)
