Vanguard vs. WoW
I've been hearing all kinds of crap about how Vanguard is not ready to be released, that It's got a lot of mistakes, exp is too slow, the game is too hard, people say It would take years to max out your toon and so on. . .a lot of people is comparing VG to WoW (on most VG forums) saying they are not gonna play VG, because of all the above mentioned "problems". All Im gonna say Is: "please, stay in WoW, PLEASE!". The way I think about VG is, that It MUST be hard, It MUST take long time to max your toon, exp should be slow, basically I want It to be as close to reality of fantasy books as possible. WTF would I want to max my toon in couple months? Where is the fun? I dont want VG to became same fraud as EQ1 where ppl have 5+ maxed toons, they run around like crazy clicking teleports, movig all over the world in matter of seconds smack talking to everyone they meet, Its not fantasy based online game anymore, Its a godamn arcade - so ridiculously easy, Its not even funny anymore. I've been waiting for something like VG ever since the PoP expansion came out in EQ1, that ruined everything. How great was the game before that hey? People had no gear, no moeny, yet it was the most fun period of EQ1. . .because It was challenging!!!
Personally, I dont mind staying on say lvl 15 for a year, if I have something fun to do during the time and It looks like It wont be a problem with all the crafting/diplomacy/harvesting. This game should be for those who know how to enjoy it, not for those who just "consume" those online games like they do in EQ1. People just run through it like knife through butter, they must have everything asap, they buy money online, they ebay toons, they PL alts and stuff....you people PLEASE stay in EQ1, WoW and other easy games, those are for you...dont ruin another game that hs potential to be the first real fantasy online game!!!!

Sadly WoW has set the bar with sub #'s so we have to put up with all the comparsions to it.
Personally, I agree with the OP.

I personally love WoW. If BC had introduced more classes I would still be playing it. Unfortunately I've grown bored with it after two years and VG, with all of it's imperfections, appeals to me. It's like being the #1 fan of chocolate cake. You can only eat so much of it when you decide to dive into some hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream!

OP is correct. I have a few 60s on WoW. Leveling to 60 is so easy. WoW is just a loot grind. TBC is just a glamorous loot expansion. Hell, someone got to lvl 70 in 2 days after TBC was launched.
I love VG, however I do get some crazy lag when I go in towns that if doesn't get fixed before launch I cant see myself paying for the game.

Please provide a link to the source of this info. I know a couple of guys who played 8+ hours, in a group, doing quests and got 1/2 in to level 62. So I seriously doubt someone is already lvl 70.

He's correct. Heard it from my friend who has a 60 and BC. 2 days to get to 70... pretty sad.

I also love WoW. Its a great game. You wont find me bashing it. I've spent the last two years playing it. I just got tired of the raid grind. Also, being in WoW beta, I've leveled to 70 and I've done all the end game content (minus raid content that wasn't in) and the expansion brings nothing new to the table. Its the same old WoW - just another 10 levels of it. I need a change. And Vanguard is that change. I'm loving every minute of it!!
edit: its early, I can't spell

Its pointless to compare WoW and Vanguard. They are drastically different games.
If you have fun playing WoW - Great! Play on. If WoW was fun for a bit then became boring... if you are looking for a game with more longevity, then play Vanguard.
There isn't anything wrong with WoW... it just a game that caters to a different philosophy.

The only people I ever see talking about the game being difficult is the ones saying that "WoW people whine/will whine that it is too difficult". These are people that usually envision themselves as being 'hardcore' gamers, and have some delusion that VG was made just for them.
I've never played WoW, but if it's anyone we can do without it's the drama queens who feel the need to lay claim to the game as if it is thier own, and blame change on the community. "Whaaaa it's my game you better not ruin it!!!" Puhlease.

I've gone back to WoW myself. Figured id drop in to see how me old guild was doing and what not then found myself doing BG's for season 2 arena gear. Its safe to say i'm a WoW addict again not that I really want to be.
Still paying for Conan as well, just havnt been playing it. Strange because at its core it is a better game. Guess its not the game, its the people you play with after all!

I raided in WoW for a long time, and I just started raiding Vanguard a little while ago.. have to say that there is nothing special about raiding in VG. Yeah there is a different flavor to it, and I think APW is well done.. I just don't understand the point of contested raid content.
"Shard 4 has 30 people in it, lets avoid that, everyone to shard 5."
Horrendous lag when another group is in the area.
Everyone goes out of their way to avoid drama.. contested is laughable and only limits the amount of scripting that could be done if they instanced each raid. Not to mention that you can't rope content in WoW, its much easier to wipe there, the money hit for repairs from death adds twice the risk of VG, and I've yet do an encounter that is anywhere near as difficult to coordinate as some of the raid encounters in WoW.

We'll see as raid content progresses. VG currently suffers from player character models that simply don't allow 30 people to gather in close proximity. This severely limits raid size. The new models for GU6 are being designed specifically with this in mind.
As for instancing/contesting: I disagree. I'm not a min-maxer or powergamer. I actually find the drama and (in some instances) cooperation resulting from content contestation adds to my enjoyment of the game. Even the frustration that results from having to change your plans because someone beat you to it is something I missed when I played WoW. The speedbumps that contestation presents keep the game from feeling like a series of Pavlovian levers. Find this lever and pull it, get the prize! I understand your position; however, I hope that SOE sticks to Vanguard's initial goal of little to no instancing.

I agree. This even works in a funny way for me soloing. When I find a good spot for XP or Loot I tend to go there for several times in a row. At some point it starts to feel grindy, however the spot is too efficient and comfortable to give up. Then when I find someone else on that spot some day I usually feel relief: now I have to go do something else! This is usually where I try new stuff, seek new challenges, explore unexlored ground (and usually die a few times in the proces).
Just a small example of the whole multiplayer thingy: other people influence what you do in the game.
