Default Dvd/cd Rom

ARGHHHHH

I need to replace my cd/dvd rom. I went to Newegg and got one from liteon and when I got it it was a USB type connector and my T3302 emachine uses a pin connection. I don't know what, when looking at specs, implies the type of connection the drive is.

Please educate me

The newer drives are using an interface called Serial ATA. I'm guessing this is the kind you bought.

What you are likely looking for is the older parallel ATA interface with the ribbon cable and pin connectors. This older interface is also sometimes referred to as IDE (although that's sort of a misnomer, but we won't go into that).

You probably want one of these -

You are looking for IDE, or PATA.... instead of SATA.

Pretty sure on the "interface" option you want to set it to "ide" not "Sata".

You should have only gotten USB if it's an external drive though. Not sure how you got an internal with USB. Your system doesn't have a USB port you could use?

Bah, fine post while I'm editing my post and beat me.

It looked like a USB connection does which is why I called it that

Thanks for the information.
