Default Anyone got a mage? I could use some mage dps tips.

I'm trying to improve my DPS and it's pretty poor at the moment. Been using the downloadable parser, and in PVE, a guildmate gets about 710dps. I get 500

He is a rogue, but his gear is mostly blue. I'm a mage and my gear is almost all purple and quite good. I've tried a pyro build, and a warlock/necro build. They both get around 500 ish, I think the highest I had was about 560. Can you guys suggest anything to boost my dps? When I do instances, our tank is perfect, healing perfect, so I don't need to do anything except damage. So I want to make sure that's as good as it can be.

I was told that a stormcaller was the highest dps for raiding. I think Zam has builds? Or something like that.

I haven't parsed my mage but it seems satisfactory so far. I use an ele/pyro/chloro build to solo and can solo elite post 50 mobs as long as I'm careful with my pet. This build also does fairly well on multiple mobs solo because there is a lot of aoe damage. I use a chloro/archon/necro build for healing/dps in dungeons that require backup healing. I do have a pyro/ele build too which, from what I read, can be pretty good.

Only gear thing I can suggest is make sure your sigil has as many stat boosts as possible (be sure to get the level 50 sigil with 4 lesser and 2 greater slots (you can put lesser in greater slots if they boost you better than the greaters do), get runes for every piece of gear and compare purples ... some aren't as good as others. Faction will give you "steaks" from Wyrmbane to boost int. There are some other very good potions to boost both int and spell power.

I could be wrong on this but I believe mages need to push int and spell power first, then spell crit and then spell focus. Focus has to meet certain levels for the post 50 tiers.

Hopefully someone can give you better specifics

Cool thanks! I think int and spellpower is my problem. I have been purely focused on PVP so I'm all about crit at the moment, I land loads of them. But I think now that I'm doing more PVE I need to build up my int and spell power for more sustained damage.

I love my Mage though either way, so versatile! I'll just work on keeping up with those rogues now :P

Used to be. We don't know, really, after today's patch.

Focus, Spell Power and Spell Crit are your needed focus areas. Which order you put those in is largely up to your build. If you are doing a lot of DoTs, then Crit isn't going to help you much. If you have a lot of long cast times, then Focus is your buddy. Wait, I can sum that up:

DoTs and Channels = Spell Power, Focus
Big, long hits = Focus, Crit
Small, quick hits = Spell Crit, Spell Power

You'll want INT for any of them, also.

Gear (your blue v purple stuff) isn't going to make a large difference. It's going to make *A* difference, just not a large one. Your rotation is going to be the biggest difference that you can immediately control. Use the test dummies in the main cities to get your rotation down.

There are known issues with the Rift Junkies damage parser, so if you are using that and someone else is using a different one, you could be comparing apples to oranges.

Thanks!

I think my main problem is just my pvp gear being not too good for pve. My focus is a bit meh, my int is a bit meh, and I've got hardly any spell power. So I think I need to improve all that.

Going to see what happens after this patch anyway. I still do a lot of Warfronts and I'm starting to rock in there, so at least I'm doing that right
