Default Hey guys, been a long time but here is a quick Ram question.

I am running a fairly aged machine now with 2 gig of ddr2 800 ( corsair xms) and i was wanting to upgrade it. I see that there is a sale for 2 2 gig sticks that i would love to buy and here now is the issue.

Can i install two 2 gig sticks in dual channel while running two one gig sticks in the other channels for 6 gig total? ( same make, speed, timing, voltage )

or MUST they also be the same mem size?

Thanks in advance.

( if it matters I have a motherboard that only supports ddr2 and i am running win 7 64 it)

Thanks again

Mike

Yep, the RAM sticks do not have to be same size. I am sure your current 2 x 1GB sticks are working in Dual-channel mode already. If you are in doubt, you can always run CPU-Z and make sure. If you do not have it, Google it. It is really nice small utility that tells you pretty much everything hardware-wise about your PC.

They are indeed currently set up in dual channel. Thanks for your reply.

I was only concerned as when i attempted to do some research i got some results about how this works with intel but not amd and yada yada yada, but most results were years or more old.

SOO i came to the experts Fozzik and Rabb1t have not yet steered me wrong.'
