My daughters laptop stopped working so I reformatted the laptop. It came on working great BUT it wont allow me to go online. It is reading No network hardware in the device section. wont repair when you hit repair button. Do I need to buy some recovery CD to get it back? It is a Toshiba T135D-S1322

Device manager is not showing anything with a yellow question mark? Like an unknown device or something like that?

Might there be a switch on the laptop that turns off networking?

Can you get into the BIOS and see if the network chip shows up there?

It has a yellow exclamation point. Do I go to cmd prompt to get into the bios? and what cmd do I use?

If it's showing in the device manager, you don't have to get in the BIOS. You just need the driver for that specific network chip. Check the manufacturer of the laptop website...they should probably have a driver package or individual drivers for that machine. Download and install the driver.

I know what you meant (get it on another PC, put it on a thumb drive, install it on the laptop) but I barked out a laugh at your 'download and install network card drivers' comment so I had to post and make fun of you for it.

Yeah I can't connect so I cant download herein lies my problem. I think I'm just going to order the hardware discs. I have looked everywhere for a fix on the web and nothing really helps without connectivity to the web.

My disc drive is screwy since I dumped tea in it. Sometimes it opens sometimes it doesn't but thats another issue lol.

You are posting on web forums to ask your question, Vordox, so obviously you are connected to the internet.

Download the driver on the internet connected PC and then put it on a thumbdrive to move it to a laptop. If you don't have a thumb drive, you can buy them for like $10 or less...and it's a good thing to have.


As completely unrelated aside - I did do that one time back when I worked IT. I had a boss-type person who couldn't get his email, and he was super-pissed (his mailbox had become inaccessible on the server because he had like 16 GB of mail in his inbox, which at the time was fricken huge). I told him I would go fix it on the server side...and as I was leaving the office I said, "I'll send you an email and let you know when it's back up."

It was totally habit, but yeah I got a good chewing out that day. :P

I have a detachable hardrive can I download it there then upload it on laptop? Also there are a bunch of downloads which one do I need for network hardware? Utility,Bios, UtilityRegistry patch for System Restore?

It's probably called system drivers or something. If you post a link to the download page, I'll see if I see it.

An external drive should work for transferring files just fine.

I got it ty. The back up plug in hardrive worked and just downloaded it on to her laptop. The lan is fine wi fi still not though and can't figure that out. Was on their site and downloaded it but I fail to see it in devices. I tried unplugging the network to see if wi fi would maybe kick in but nothing. At least I got it cleaned up for her and working,and it does connect to internet so thats good for todays headache lol. I will start fresh another day.

Glad you got it partly working.

I'd check on the outside of the laptop (sides or front) to see if there's a mechanical switch (might also be near or on the keyboard) which turns wifi on and off. A lot of laptops have it...it just disables things.

Other than that, it should show up in the Device Manager. If it isn't...I'll think about it. You may have to get into the BIOS and check if it's activated (reformatting shouldn't change anything in the BIOS, so this would be a last ditch effort to see if the hardware might be bad).

You might find there's a little trapdoor on the underside of the laptop that will reveal the wireless card (Looks like an oversized memory unit). From there can either take the model and make and search for a driver or remove the old card and grab a replacement if you feel it's faulty. The card will have 2 small plugs on it connected to a white cable and a black and white or grey cable that just pop off and the card itself unclips just like the laptop memory (Sometimes has 2 screws.)

Also, there is sometimes a keyboard command to get a wireless card switched on. Look for a little picture of an antenna on a key (perhaps a number or function) and press it in combination with the function key on the lower left had corner. Just a couple of ideas.
