crypt32 error
I was recently watching a video and my computer shut down I looked in the event viewer and saw a crypt32 error. Did some research and didn't find much in the way of fixing it that I could understand.
Any ideas would be helpful thanks.

No idea...if it happens again maybe it's an issue with drivers? Otherwise I'd just chalk it up to normal computery weirdness.

Update all my drivers regularly. The only thing that I put new on my computer was TERA and I uninstalled it the other day. Oh and I had to download some framework thing in order to play the game.
Maybe I'm just paranoid since GW2 is approaching and am thinking it will break on game day lol. Thanks though.

Ok now I think I broke my computer. I was making sure all drivers were updated. All were except the Processor so I updated it then suddenly my computer cuts off. I try to reboot using safe mode it goes to chk disk then cuts off. I tried last known working setting and it cuts off while loading windows.
Now Im just pissed sitting here shaking mad. I can't get to the system restore so I don't know what to do?

Updating low-level drivers like CPU or motherboard can be almost as dangerous as flashing the BIOS. If you have a Windows CD (DVD), you could try booting to the CD and doing a repair, which might overwrite the damaged files. Otherwise, if you can't get into safe mode and you can't boot windows...you may need to reformat.
I never update my motherboard / CPU drivers unless there's a specific issue that I know an update will fix. The old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" saying applies here very well.
Also, you should be aware that being up to date isn't always the best thing. Sometimes new drivers can be buggy, and installing drivers as soon as they come out can sometimes cause more problems than it fixes.

I never update any drivers unless there is a specific issue. I'm running Geforce drivers from, like, 2010.
I totally agree with 'do not **** with it if it works'.

Ouch! Hope you didn't lose anything important? I had a close call last year but my windows repair disk saved me.

Yeah my pc is pretty break proof these days, I have my OS on a disk by itself with just a few games. And all my important stuff on other disks, and backed up on an external usb.

I don't even know how to backup my computer. I've had my new one for about a year now. For as much time as I spend on computers, I'm fairly ignorant about the technical things.

I have a Windows Home Server (note, was $200 when purchased. It's out of stock now so the price went up; I'm certain that there are other viable, cheap options) that does all my PCs nightly (if I leave them on). Had to restore from that twice and it works like a charm.

I use this program for my local backups...it's free, pretty easy to setup, but also very flexible. You can set up as many different backup tasks as you want, and have them run as often as you want on an automatic schedule.
http://www.cobiansoft.com/cobianbackup.htm
I do a daily backup of my documents, pictures, and desktop (all the things which I change or locations where I save things) to an internal backup drive, then I do a once-per-week automated backup that goes from the backup drive to an external USB hard drive.
You can set up cobian to do incremental backups, which means that after the initial copy of all your folders, it will only copy things which have changed. This keeps it from overwriting the whole directory every time and taking forever.
If anybody needs help setting up some backups, let me know. It's probably the most important thing you can do (besides anti-virus / anti-malware) to protect your computer. It makes crashes and windows problems totally stress-free.

Ok reformatted and I'm having the same problem I had with the laptop. Can no longer go on to the internet the devices have yellow ? marks. I have the MSI chip set driver CD but it wont play on my computer. The video card driver cd played no problem. MSI one would not. I am not really sure what or where to go to download it to my extra harddrive? I think you would know Fozz. I remember my connections had Realtek in there thats all I remember.

You need to find out exactly what model motherboard you have - MSI...something. Then you can visit the MSI website, look up your board, and they should have all the drivers you need (audio, network, etc).
You can either look at the manual (if you still have it), or look at the motherboard itself. The model is usually screen printed on the board somewhere.

The MSI cd wouldnt load up from my cd drive so I took it to Missy's computer it worked copied it to the extra harddrive then loaded onto my computer. It is working but I am still extremely pissed.
Had my daughters pictures from my old camera that has since broken so it is all gone, that hurts more than the other shit I could care less about. Luckily I put some on my Face book so I can retrieve those.
Thank You again Fozz for the help. What things exactly should I update the drivers on? And what shouldn't I?

In terms of drivers...I generally keep my graphics drivers up to date, although if I find bugs with some games I will sometimes go back to an older graphics driver. Other than that, I pretty much leave things alone unless there's a specific issue.
I ALWAYS keep my software and OS up to date...for security. So, I do all the flash and java updates, all the Windows updates, all updates to anti-virus, etc.
Sorry to hear about the photos. You should set up an automatic backup of the files you care about, because then you won't have to think about it, and this won't happen again. You could use that external hard drive for backups if you wanted.

This is how I do it. I have two hard drives inside, drive C, and drive D.
Windows is installed on drive C, and all my games and programs are installed on there too. But anything really important like photos, documents, mp3's, videos, whatever, I store all of that on drive D. So if the worst comes to worst, I can just format my drive C, and then reinstall windows and the games and programs from my original CD's/DVD's and I'm back up and running in an hour or two. And I haven't lost anything important in the process either because that is all still untouched on the other D drive.
The only thing I do lose is stuff like my browsers bookmarks, and savegames, and anything which insists on being on the main c drive. But my bookmarks I can usually remember and savegames are expendable.
So it works pretty well. Although all my eggs are in one basket on drive D, so that needs to be backed up. For that I have a third hard disk on my computer and I make a duplicate of my important stuff on to that. And then I have this external USB hard drive, and I make a backup on to that too. The external disk is only 80gig but that's enough to just backup anything important. So just once every few weeks, or whenever I get something new that's important, I just copy and paste from drive D on to the two other disks.
