I feel the same way.
GW2's lack of subscription could be interesting though. With WoW, there were 10+ million people who bought it, even though they had to pay a monthly sub. GW2 is (arguably?) a far better game and yet it has no monthly sub. It makes me wonder if many more people could end up playing it..... even more than WoW!
Not only that but it might change the pace of the game too. With subscription based games, maybe it's just me, but I tend to over-play them. I think it's because I know I'm kind of on the clock, and I try to get as much done as possible, in the shortest amount of time, therefore minimising my number of months subcribing. With most games I'm not too extreme with it, but when I was 2boxing in Vanguard (paying 2 subscriptions per month), I tried my absolute hardest to maximise my time in the game.
With GW2, I wonder whether people will be a bit more chilled in general? We aren't playing against the clock, there is literally no rush. Everyone says these games are better if you stop and smell the roses, usually though there aren't even any roses worth smelling... GW2 not only has plenty of roses, but there is also no pressure to hurry along.
