Do headsets matter?
Greetings,
I've been wondering about headsets, and whether or not it makes sense to get a new one. Ive looked at a couple made by Sennheiser, that are supposed to give you 360 degrees around and up and down perception.
My Question.... Are they better than your average headset and are they worth the money?
Thanks,
Deb

I think to a certain extent they do matter... getting headsets that are comfortable and have a nice wide frequency response is definitely important.
However, I certainly wouldn't buy something just on name brand...there are plenty of very cheap headphones out there that could work extremely well (I think the ones I use were under $40).

I agree with Fozzik. The main thing is comfort though. I have some 30 dollar ones...over the ear type with mic. They suck...my ears hurt after awhile. Most headset/mic's dont have the best sound quality though (unless you pay for it). I am switching to a nice headphone with desk mic. So that im not switching out headphones all the time. Im getting a nice stereo monitor headphone with 9.99 desk mic.

I think I'm going to splurge and get the Sennheiser PC160SK.
It has gotten good reviews and I would love to hear the surround sound for gaming.

Those are supposed to be pretty sweet. I'd love to hear what you think... comfort is such a subjective thing.

As far as the 360 degree sound goes, that depends on your sound card also. I have a pair of those 5.1 headsets and while they do work I wanted a mic, which they didn't have. So I got a cheap pair of Plantronics Audio 90 for like $20 and they work great on my X-Fi.
I myself will be getting a nice headset with a mic, I don't like desktop microphones at all. I am looking at getting Sennheisers myself. They seem to be some of the best out there.
So yes, brand does matter, but usually once you hit the $20-30 mark you should be good.
Oh, and avoid USB headsets.

I didn't guess the latter judging from your gnomish affection with teknik stuff.

Nono, you're getting it wrong. He's using some teknik device to eavesdrop your private thoughts.

My headset works very well. Great sound and they are perfectly comfortable for me. Maybe I have a small head......

Glad to hear it.
I've got a giant head. It has caused me no end of problems in finding the right headsets.
