While most of us here in the Vanguard ranks are eagerly awaiting our new MMORPG home, our other life home appears to have fallen on hard times. We Vanguardians have high hopes for how we want our world of Telon to be. Many safeguards have been or will be put into place to keep Telon safe, secure, user-friendly and trouble free. Our other home is, according to Space Shuttle Discovery Commander Eileen Collins, in a fragile state. To illustrate her warning, the picture to the left is a split screen photo, one side showing the desolate, atmosphere-devoid Mars and the other showing Earth. Hard to figure out which is which, isn't it?
Speaking from the shuttle in space today during a conversation with Japanese officials in Tokyo, including Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, Commander Collins said that the space shuttle crew had seen widespread environmental destruction on Earth. She warned that "...greater care was needed to protect natural resources."
Collins, flying her fourth shuttle mission, said the view from space made clear that Earth's atmosphere must be protected, too.
"The atmosphere almost looks like an eggshell on an egg, it's so very thin," she said. "We know that we don't have much air, we need to protect what we have."
So, while we might have great success with protecting Telon, it seems that we need to apply the same kind of devotion to protecting our home planet in RL.
