Necro!

Well I don't think that Havelock is doing any planning, since he's only a Fanboi Spammer, not a Dev.

Oops! haha, my mind must have just went blank when I typed that. O.K. let me try again. Do you see any clear difference in the way SWG and Vanguard went about handling housing? Any way that shows more commitment and a higher chance of staying for release?

better? sorry about that.

Well, I think it's still kind of unclear exactly what's going to be in Vanguard at launch and whether they're going to tweak the player city ideas . . . *but*, here's a huge plus on Sigil's side of the balance: they say you can look in and out of the windows of Vanguard houses. That's pure money right there. I also think Sigil's zoning rules will make cities more natural and meaningful. And the various things for crafters and diplomats to do around cities sound deeper than what architects and politicians could do in SWG. But again, a lot of the plans are nebulous, so it's hard to say for sure. I think there's good reason for optimism, though, and I look forward to seeing a lot of the things I liked in SWG's cities refined and expanded upon. I always though SWG laid a good foundation but failed to build upon it after the basics were in place.

Very good write up.

Sounds like you will be able to build a community even ina small area on a server which will be a VERY good thing. Add to it a system of defence and tech levels and it will be amazing. I wonder if large guilds will have options for building castles within the proper zoning areas...that would be really great and add to the idea of guilds being a force in creating new communities.
