Vista and MB No Like 4GB Memory
Okay. ENTIRELY seperate from my previous thread. I upgraded to Windows Vista. Now when I boot with 4 GB I don't even get POST. Just a methodical beep every 15 secs or so. I remove 1 stick to 3GB... I POST start to load Vista... but it never loads... why is this always SO difficult... lmao

I thought you were gonna have more problems heh All that stuff you were going on about in the other thread didn't entirely make sense. I stayed out of it cause I didn't feel like arguing, but if your memory was working right you should have been able to use WinXP just fine, but it would have likely ignored memory over 3GB.
Anyway it is all besides the point.
Have you tried updating your motherboard BIOS? Often that can solve the issue.

can't update the BIOS any higher than it already is
wouldn't make sense either... I didn't change the BIOS...
the issue isn't Vista entirely either
just a huge PITA IMO

Does Vista install with just your original 2GB?

Did you actually wait for 1/2 hour for Vista to start for the first time? I have read that if you don't wait the full 1/2 hour for the first boot you can really screw yourself.

Okay... time out... I knew ahead of time that the Ultimate 64-bit version had issues installing with more than 2GB... so it installed just fine with the 2GB...
after installation... updating... driver installing... blah blah... lol... I shut down and installed the 2GB sticks... yes they are the exact same type as the previous two... yes they are installed in the correct banks....
with 4GB... I didn't even get the normal post screen... just a beep every 15 seconds or so...
with 3GB... it would post... start to launch Vista... but never launch (black screen)
go back down tho 2GB... the world is greener again... lol

And what happens if you try to boot with ONLY the new memory installed? Any errors?
And a single post beep every 15 seconds or so usually indicates a memory error, but you likely have that figured out already

I only assummed the beep would mean memory error but I tested each chip with the first two and both would post at least

Vista x64 should have no issues with 4gig of memory.. Vista 32bit is similar to XP in that it should work with over 2gig of RAM but may not allow applications to use it all.
If you cant post with all 4 memory sticks but can with any combo of just 2 sticks, chances are you have a motherboard/bios problem. You might take a look at the motherboard website and see if there is a bios update you can get.

Hi I have been having issues with 4gb ram as well. Nothing as severe as this. What happens for me is when i added the new 2 1gb sticks of ram which match my other two exactly the system boots fine but in vanguard I all of a sudden gets huge ping times and lags to the point of not being able to type more then 4 letters in per 5 seconds. I have since removed the new ram and the game plays fine. I also tried the ram on my xp boot partition and the same thing happens albeit its not as severe. It comes and goes in xp. I did use the 3gb switch on xp as well. I plan to try using the 2 new sticks and removing the old ones to see if the problem still occurs. If it doesnt I think I can safely assume that the ram is the problem. If this ram performs fine does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this issue? Also is there any other testing that you can recommend that I try?
Thanks in advance.
