What is it about PvP that appeals to you personally?
I ask this question because I am considering making a character on one of the PvP servers. I have never PvPed that much, mainly because I stink at it.
The idea of having to always watch my back intrigues me. Just wondering what everyone's opinion was?
Thanks for the input.

Makes the game more, alive. Everything is killable and you can be kill by everything. Makes you watch your back alot. And you can kill that guy who keeps spamming the chat channel.

Lots of things.
1)It raises my low self esteem when i join up a good group of "rpks"and we run
and gank soloers engaged in pve.
2)My high infamy number makes me feel better than you.
3)I can show how good I am at this game and how bad you really are.Simply by making a cleric.
4)Pve raiding gets old for me.
5)I like to "ruin" your day by attacking you when you are defenseless.
6)I like to anger you by camping you at your bind spot.
the list goes on and on

Played DAOC for five years. Love RVR concept(which hasen't been implemented in VG..yet). I like competing against real people and the challenge they present.

Well as a non player killer type on Tharridon (FFA) I like it because I can immerse myself into the world more and know there are more 'real' dangers not just machine generated ones.
I like FFA vs Team because many times gankers and I befriend each other (and they are usually nice, the ones who are a bit hard to control I end up not grouping with much) and that again is more realistic to me to what a real medieval world might be like.
You are at war but you don't have to hate every single person, thats why i don't like Team pvp is sometimes I like the other guys better than my own guys.
I like to protect people too, but I don't always get to, sometimes I end up having to be one of the ones hurting them. It really all just depends.
I am in a good guild who does not want to be RPK but also is not against killing if we need to, its a fine line and I like it!!
We have ally guilds too, and we try to work with them a lot. Allies and friends are much more important on a FFA server.

It adds more depth to the game. Put your self in the year 1240 as somekind of thief who lives in the back alleys of some run-down town. A rather rich looking man is walking your way, by himself, in the middle of night. You grin and reach for your rusty dagger, thinking that this dolt may actually have money on him. Maybe you'll get to eat tonight.
You approach your target and are about to deliver a swift shot to the lower spine, when a HUGE red error appears across your vision screaming "INVALID TARGET".
Thats why. Going around killing EVERYONE can be lame, but warband-like PVP is a LOT of fun.

1)Other players are the best challenge.
2)The world doesn't feel as alive without the danger of a PvP fight at all times- it goes to immersiveness. Harvesting on a FFA server is actually much more fun because you are constantly watching your back. Other players are unpredicable and that enlivens the entire experience. Highs are higher and the lows are lower.
That said, VG is a PvE game with PvP tacked on. Know what you re getting into and what kind of experience you are getting into on a FFA server.

Yea Evan this is why I kill with purpose or reason. If I am in a group who rolls over someone, not much I can do, but I do usually say 'come on guys lets just get our stuff done, leave them alone' etc.
So while I may not be able to stop the initial gankage, I can usually keep my group moving past and onward so they don't camp and continue ganking over and over heh.
It is for sure a challenge for lil ol me.

The excitement
The fear
The fun
The adrenaline
The rush
...but only if the PVP is designed properly, ie FFA with REAL risk/rewards. Long live UO/AC1!

The PvP engagement in itself, is ok I would say, not any different than many other games, but it is not the main reason of playing on a pvp server.
I very very rarelly will go out there looking for enemy people to fight. At least not during the leveling part of the gameplay. Once leveled things change a bit of cource, as it is time to start thinking about the war in the realm, getting together with other guilds organising raids(PvP raids) to enemy territory etc...
I prefer a pvp server, mainly because life in that fantasy world makes more sence, and as a result is lots more immersive due to the added possibilities of realism that PvP offers.
The unnexpected is part of life, to deny it is to deny Living all together.

I just like to kill anyone who pisses me off. That's why Team PVP doesn't cut it for me. If anyone - anyone at all - offends me, it's on.
On a blue server, if someone pisses me off, I can't do jack but whine like a baby or forget about it. Well, I'm not a baby and I happen to have a good memory. I like to take things into my own hands, as any man ought to.
Show me respect, we're cool. If not, get ready to die.
Also, if I am in a bad mood, you better just do what I say.

The Challenge, the excitement, and the fun.

Ditto.
I enjoy the competativeness of it.
I also enjoy the increase 'risk'. It is sort of like the PvE equivalent of having those roving lethal mobs -- sand giants in EQ, etc.
The problem is that it is easily exploitable, so the competition is more rare, than common. Too many people need to have the computer help them, so it really becomes more an issue of PvE, with people pretending its PvP.
It is a blast when it is competative, but just lame PvE when it is not -- sort of like the difference between a really tough raid, and a raid wipe because of computer lag.

I agree.
VG is really not a PvP game, but rather a PvE game with a semi-pvp option.
However, the advance PvE it offers can help you become a better player.
