Default Regarding the whiteout effect of some objects.

I /bugged what I am about to type but I figured I would post it here as well.

The whiteout effect is when certain objects appear pure white. some say it's missing a texture. The whiteout effect causes extreme slowdowns when first encountered and sometimes lockups or crashes. It never has fixed itself for me as some others proclaim and is always present when I play.

I think it is actually somthing to to with application of reflective surface. I'll include a Screenshot.

I believe the whiteout effect may be from from a missing or extremely high upper boundary on reflective surfaces function or is being called too many times or possibly maximum times giving it a white look.

People are reporting that the torch can somtimes fix this. This could possibly be because the reflective surface in regard to the torch is not missing or does not have the extreme upper boundary.

ID:	679 Same place except torch is on. Notice in the top right the whiteout still in effect out of reach/sight from torch interaction.

I thought I would add that I have tried several methods of fixing this myself, but it seems certain objects and sometimes monsters like shiney spider butts always appear white like this.

It's caused by VG being unable to find/load the texture for the surface being shown , there's an NPC at one of the crafting camps near Khal I often get this problem on , I approach him...one of his legs is pure white....Disk access goes wild and the game slows right down and after a few seconds the pants pop into view and all is normal again .

I get this problem now and then as well, what I usually do is go to graphics settings, reselect my current setting (high quali) which reloads all textures and then just hit cancel so it doesn't change all my settings

Everything will look normal again then. Funny thing is, if you just relog they stay white so it's probably some corrupted cache somewhere.

heres a few more screenshots of the effect from a different aspect.

When moving into or out of a certain range the white objects appear or dissapear.

This occurs when the shader cache in VG becomes corrupt.

You can remedy this problem by deleting the following files in: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vanguard\bin\Caches
  • compiled_PixelShaders.shd
  • compiled_VertexShaders.shd

I get this sometimes on my 8800, so when this happens I hop out of VG and delete those two files.
Once I do this and log back in, the issue is gone for sometime.
