I believe Brad said he really did'nt want your kind of fanboism. If people are leaving I'm sure Sigil wants to know why. Your the kind that have been driving people to not even try this game.
I'm one of the people that are still trying to make up their mind on whether to try it or not. I (for one) want to see why people are leaving....or staying.

God forbid someone doesn't like a broken game. Maybe you're cool with playing a half-assed piece of shit, but _many_ are not.

People like you is going to be the #1 reason why this game is going to failure. Not a friendly community

Hey folks!

My girlfriend and me are veteran MMORPGers since Ultima Online. We played almost every MMORPG out there to date including EQ1 for a short time. We came to Vanguard to find a challenging state of the art MMORPG after World of Warcraft *yaaaawn*, but sadly we only found frustration. Playing together with ones girlfriend is challenging for sure, but if the game does it's best to turn ones playing experience into pure frustration it's better to stop playing.

The problems of Vanguard are many. For one it's the game mechanics, some of them are very well designed and a step into the right direction for the industry, but many others are a step back for years. Not once I had some flashbacks to EQ1 beta *shudders*. I'm one of those players that think playing a game in ones free time (after hours of work) should be fun and fun, as I define it has little to do with challenge, especially not, if the challenge is created artificially by horrific game mechanics out of the stone age of MMORPGs.

Another very annoying aspect of Vanguard is the missing history, background story and general theme of the world. Yes it's a huge world, but there is almost no immersion or even the slightest attempt to make the players feel like being part of that world.

I won't go into details about bugs and other annoyances, but suffice to say, that there are many. Sure, every other MMORPG had problems when it launched, but Vanguard got exceptionally many and some of them are severe show stoppers.

Anyhow, we're going to leave before we got to have to pay for the game. I really hope some game mechanics will change in the future and the bugs will get fixed.

For those staying. Enjoy the game and don't let some people ruin your fun.

Cheers *hurries back to DAOC*

Edit: I forgot to mention one more thing .. one of the reasons we wanted to give Vanguard a try was the Fellowship system since my GF and me are not able to play together all the time. This system would have made it easier for us to stay in range, but since it is still not active we can only play when both of us got time.

Honestly....this whole thread is pretty sad. I mean everyone that leaves is just gonna say the same thing anyways.

Don't wanna pay to play Beta
Broken game
CTD's
Boring, blah blah blah.

I think it's time to just stop posting goodbye threads. It's not even interesting anymore. I like the WAAAA threads more. Personally, i too get annoyed when i lock up, or lag, or CTD. And i do and have. SOmedays i have no issues at all. Other days, i'm flooded. I thnk my PC is a bit borked up though right now too. Either way, on those days, i usually just log off and do something else. It's good that i don't play too much, imo. Sitting all day is never a good thing for anyone. Still wouldn't trade this game for another. I love VG. Guess i'm just a crazy Vanboi.

Let me preface this by stating that I am NOT a "vanboi". I am a MMO veteran who has been in the genre since it started, and I have tried them all, both in beta and live release.

Anyway, I for one am tired of all the "OMGZ VANGUARD SUXXORS I AM LEAVING IT IS NOT WORTH MY 71 CENTS PER DAY" threads.

What is the funniest to me is how they own themselves in their own posts. Think about it... they want the game to be good, but they refuse to do anything to help the game be good. They won't participate, and they feel good about themselves for trashing the game. It is a sad reflection on what our society has become, this demand for instant gratification, and the venemous hate. No one wants to work for anything anymore, and they think being a hater is "cool".

Brad and the dev team are making every effort to work with the community, to keep lines of communication open. What other game, ever, has had such a vocal and involved dev team?

They were forced into early release by "the man". They are trying to recover from it and make Vanguard what we hoped it would be, and they are encouraging the community to help drive the process. Brad has even clearly stated that user generated content is part of the vision. What other game is going to allow you to have so much input into the process and into the game?

Nothing else offers the promise of Vanguard. Nothing. You just have to look at the big picture. I consider myself an "investor" in Vanguard... my subscription is my contribution to "the vision", and a vote of confidence for Sigil. I encourage more people to share my view, and become investors in the future of Vanguard.

I can only speak for myself. I canceled my subscription. I might come back later, who knows. How do you think we can "work" on this game becoming better? I think that's the job of the people developing it. I /bugged stuff here and there, sure. Doesn't take much time, and it might help.

That's a good point. It's just that, for me, I'm not that dedicated. To me, it's a game, "there are many others like it, but this one is mine." Or not, actually. Props to you for investing into Vanguard. The me, the game is not important enough to first invest money to perhaps get a really good game in 6 months or a year. If it doesn't happen, meh. If it happens, I'll perhaps come back. But in the end, I don't really care that much.

They are clearly out of their depth. Bug fixes creating more bugs.... This is scaring me because I am enjoying the game and I dont want to see it fail.. but the bottom line is they have to communicate with us the customer.

We were promised many things that have not been delivered.
Some higher level content is just now being added.
Classes have many issues and the community is asking questions and getting no answrers.

Im a vet too... I really want this game to succeed... communication is the key. People that are not excited about the old EQ team coming back together to create a masterpiece WILL NOT pay for this... they will leave to a game that works. Why should they stay... they arent here like us old EQ fans hoping for that magic to be returned... they just want to play and I dont blame them for leaving in disgust after experiencing better CSR... faster fixes and filled out content.

They need to realize this and coomunicate their agenda to us. My class have several issues.... I would feel tons better if I had an idea of when my more serious issues were being looked at.... even if its far off at least I KNOW its noticed and will be looked at someday.

Nerfing... too much of it.. it is demoralizing. Having weapons get nerfed from under you is way way worse then having it be a piece of crud to begin with. If you can.. go around nerfing by adjusting other things.... nerf should be the last resort.

Im not leaving.. but i got a feeling vanguard will sink if they dont start communicating with the players and taking them into consideration... I remember the day I logged in and looked at my Gazra axe how I felt..." wtf they couldnt figure this out before launch!!?"" Because it was a bummer to lose 21 dps on something in a single day. I felt violated!

Anyways good luck to those leaving... I think we are ont he edge and this game can go either way... lets just hope these guys can pull off some miracles besides double xp weekend eh?

I dont understand why people put up with mediocracy. I'm having a blast in another cannot-be-named-due-to-NDA game that's still in BETA. In this other game I havn't crashed once, the enviroment looks awsome, character models are varied and atractive (even my short, fat, cannot-say-race-due-to-NDA is a complete blast to look at) There's more to do at lower levels, there may not be 500 abilities per class, but that's what breeds strategy within groups, learning to work with what you have.

So due to this awsome game opening my eyes, I'm canceling my Vanguard account. I may be back later when all the suckers have paid the developers to iron out the bugs that makes Vanguard a chore to play. But for now, I'm not going to settle for this game. There are better, cleaner, more enjoyable alternatives.

And no you can't have my stuff, I already gave it away

I used to post here a lot, mainly because I was playing the game. A month or so after the games release, there really wasn't enough to keep me interested. Sure, there's an absolute bang-load of content, but the risk/reward factor just out right sucks. I hate the idea of having to get together a full group of people to even think about doing a dungeon. And even then, the only dungeons people actually WANT to do are filled. Since no one wants to do anything but 3 dungeons, it negates the point of having tons of content.

In other words, it's Sol A (B? I forget which had the goblins) and CB all over again. No thanks.

I also thought the community here was going to be better. You know, EQ players coming over, the good WoW crowd, DAoC guys, etc. Even though I found a good guild, almost everyone I grouped with was a WoW kiddie who couldn't stand still nd tayh tlk liek tihs.

To make matters worse, there are no "normal" people in this. I have yet to find someone with a sense of humor that is intelligent enough to get a simple play on words.

Favoring classes that rely on group play in games was also a mistake. While I made a BMG and could solo very well, the allready slow pace of XP post-20 makes the game a chore to play. Playing casually nets you no reward unless you find/make a group. Finding/making a group is a waste because nobody just wants to sit and grind. Everyone wants to do their series of little WoW-esque quests and then they leave. The second you finish whatever quest they wanted they say "It's been nice grouping guys, but I gotta go."

Besides diplomacy (which got boring after the initial chain quest), this game offers nothing new besides a huge world. There's nothing special about any of the game. Combat is a lazy version of DAoC's, the magic system is nearly identical to every other MMO, and the crafting was so borked when I tried it that I became too frustrated to even care about it.

Dungeons not being itemized (Gulgrethor Fortress), items that seemingly have random stack sizes (some 4, some 7, etc.), repairs taking up all the cash I make, glitched mobs/invisible mobs/instant respawn mobs cause me to die which increases the cost of repairs if I can't get my corpse (which is usually the case), not being able to find groups, just everything about the game, in it's current state, makes the game a chore.

The MAIN problem though is the core of it. Combat. There's just nothing exciting about combat after the first day. There's nothing special, fun, or anything really cool about it. It's just stale, boring, and not fun, which is a key element. The combat has to be fun. If I wanted to play a crafting game, I'd play something BESIDES Vanguard. I'd play EVE, The Sims Online, pretty much anything. The only "new" thing VG has, as I said earlier, is Diplomacy which got incredibly boring once it turned into a grind fest.

Sure, grinding can be fun, but only if the combat is fun. I have no problem with beating up enemies all day long... if the game is fun. It's sort of the reason I won't go back to EQ. The game just isn't fun compared to whats out there.

Yeah, the games probably the most popular (besides WoW) and freshest MMO out right now, but a simple core mechanic of the game has pretty much made it boring. I've gone to play City of Heroes and I have to say that the combat, which is what the game is all about, is fun and refreshing. The game has pretty good graphics for being 2 or so years old to boot. Yeah, it's a grind fest as well, but it's FUN.

It's mainly the little stuff that makes a game fun, though. I'm not talking about having complete control over your character as you fight (although DDO did a good job on this). Having your attacks actually have a physical effect on your opponent is one. I'm not talking about having his armor dented or whatever, but hitting my opponent with my shield SHOULD knock him back if it's a good hit. Blasting my opponent with a powerfull missle spell should send him flying. Stuff like that just makes the game cool.

Hell, having the AI actually 'think' a little is refreshing enough. I'm SO tired of enemies just standing there hitting me. Be creative. Something, ANYTHING besides just standing there and attacking me.

Bottom line: It's just not fun. I can kill monsters in any other MMO but that doesn't make them fun. It seems, atleast to me, that VG didn't even try to do anything special with the combat. Yeah, counters are cool, but it's nothing I'd stay in a game for. Something like that is an addition a game like DAoC would add to try to bring back some players.

Maybe if combat, just as a whole, is revamped I'd replay it... or maybe if the game stopped being an absolute chore.

I cancelled my sub today. The main reasons are:

The game needs more "soul". There's a thread about it here.

Chunking and Sigil's unwillingness to fix it.

Ugly graphics and animations.

I might come back, but I doubt it. Maybe this info is useful if some Sigil Employee collects these kinds of things.
