Boat parts are what kept me going. But, since there are no galleons in... I don't know why I keep going I have little urge to adventure simply because I see plenty of people I know grind to 30+, the start another class and grind to 30+ again... doesn't seem like it will take nearly as much time as crafting would. So, I might as well get over this hump first.

My hump, my hump, my litte lady...
I haven't started crafting yet but as soon as I do the inspiration I need is that I can make money selling items and make some rares, maybe even a couple of flawless. I can even use the weapons I craft someday. Can't wait to make a tier5 flawless scimitar. +8% melle critical hit, +5regeneration, +Jerrics Honor, and don't forget stats and dps. Who knows what you can put on those things. (I'm just guessing) I know for sure you can put +regeneration on your items and add chance to score a critical hit.
I even seen a very cool affect on a shortsword I bought a couple days ago. It has a proc on it called justice. When activated it increase the chance to score a critical melee hit by 1% and it adds 315 AC. I was soloing a couple of nameds that very same day and I think the sword was some good help. Not to mention the dps and stats on the ssword was nice too.
I also know you can make scimitars because I seen a flawless mithral scimitar before. Well I didn't "see" it but I was at vanguardsoh.com looking at a crafters homepage and she just crafted one of them.
One of those combined with the graystone quest line blade would be so awesome to duel weild.

The whole work order grind demotivates me. I can usually get through maybe 25 builds before pain and loathing set in. I was almost going to blow off crafting altogether after my first exposure.
On the other hand, actually making useful items, if you have enough additives to blow in experimentation, is fun. I don't want to do it all the time, but it's nice to have it around. The rarity of some of the most useful items kind of limits the amount of fun you can have experimenting, anyway.

The more genuine crafting quests they put in with xp the better. I love making stuff for people to use, that it what crafting is all about IMHO. Work Orders are too repetitive though.

I'm at 27 Mineral and frankly I just can't do it anymore, I sit down to grind those stupid work orders and I'm on the verge of breaking my monitor after just 2. I don't even want to think about starting the faction grinds. If there were more actual crafting quests it'd be a lot more fun and would hold my attention. I thank god whenever I find an npc that asks me to go collect certain materials or go research an item somewhere. Frankly I think Sigil should focus more into this and possibly even reward recipes for doing quests as well as the exp, faction, gear, etc. The whole sphere would by a lot more fun that way imo.

Same here. I keep leveling my minerologist along so that eventually I will have built myself a nice big house and when guild houses go in I will build that for my guild as well. The motivation for me is looking forward to seeing that guild house and saying yeah I built that (well most of it at least).

Quite honestly...my motivation to keep crafting is reading OP's and complaints about VG crafting. For every crafter that just stops trying, I get more motivated to make it to the next tier, cause that means there will be less competition and I will be able to sell my products for a premium.
I can only imagine how cheap some of the items in game would be if everyone crafted to level 40. Thank you for preferring to adventure/diplo and leave the money making to the few willing to do the painful grinding.

Well, I thought crafting was going to be a little more in depth. As in, I would be crafting items for people at the bottom of dungeons while they protect me. But I see now that Sigil doesn't really give a crap about the other 2 spheres, even Silius has stated "This is an adventuring based game", which I never get. Brad never said they were "side" professions like they seem to be making them. There are 3 spheres, not one, don't call them spheres is they are just going to be the half-assed, red-headed step childs of the game.
/rant off
As far as my motivation, I hope Sigil gets a clue and actually makes this game interesting and challenging. I am getting kind of tired of how easy adventuring is and everything is loads and loads harder, more tedious and more random. At least make it all the same level of difficulty. I have ground batches non-stop basically and I am 34 now, no recipe drops at all yet.
I like making my own armor, tools, housing parts, boat parts, so I guess that is my motivation. I guess I just have hope that it improves and integrates into the game more. Right now, it is pretty bland and predictable with next to no good rewards.

I add to the /rant by saying that even if you do find a recipe upgrade, good effin luck on finding the ultra rare needed to use it.
Dessicated Timebr? WTF is that?
I have at least 2k work orders under my belt and have never found a single log of this fabled "dessicated" wood.
How do i stay motivated in crafting over 25?
No clue...I am amazed every day that I made it to 34 and am still going..its not like I can make anything useful as a carpenter.

So use Arid and make a nice easily salable weapon instead. Legendary gear SHOULD be few and far between.
Sheesh.
Oh and you don't NEED an ultra rare to use it.

Honestly, its a mix of things. I try and keep up with my husband, and I remind myself of all the room in my inventory there might be should I continue
If I get really bored, I crank up the tunes and chit chat.

I dont think most people have problem with motivation in crafting, because they have a purpose with it, what ever it maybe: heroic gear, money, S&M etc..
BUT.
I do think most people have problem with the grinding nature and the boredom it brings.
Here is how I do to make it less boring for myself:
* Listen to an Audio Book/ Podcast/ Music to keep my head occupied and at the same time do the mechanic crafting. Works great for me, I recommend it warmly
* Use simple macros to speed up crafting and reduce the clicking frenzy, all those seconds you save really add up in the long run.
* Drink Tea (optional)
Just my opinion, I hope it might be of any help

Heh, I do these exact same things when crafting. I can definately say that they are effective, but you've still got to be able to push yourself if you want to make it past 25. The most important part however is to remain focused at all times.
Personally I only use 3 macros. One to set up utilities, One to do the first step, and one to loot the finished item/display my exp.
To make a utility macro, simply use:
/refineadditem (item name)
(i find it to be the most helpful of my 3 macros)
also
/lootall
/gvlist craftexppctself (i think thats how its spelled)
loots the finished item and shows me my experience %
vanguardcrafters.com has some posts on making macros, i recommend checking them out.

Heh...I'm actually in the process of rebuilding my old PC to set it up in the living room so I can craft\diplo-grind while watching TV.
I would've done it a month ago, but I wanted to make sure I was gonna stick with the game long enuff to justify buying a new vid card just so that I could tv-grind.

I'm lame, the reason i have the drive to go on is the love of being on the high end of the curve. I like being able to keep myself in the yellow at all times and having a nice fat man purse.

I like this quote, sometimes i feel that the system penalizes for little to no reason in ways that bad games in the past like Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest did. Crafting has those invisible pits of Simon's Quest. Random invisible progress pitfalls that can only be prevented by means that are boring and counter productive (yes defense crafting is boring). I guess it's a lil bit of extra depth, but i'd prefer more entertaining methods of handling complications like say mods to the current functions. Say those 50 and 75 point functions that only provide a little progress. Retrofit those to also reduce complications or maybe add new ones that has a sole purpose to eliminate complications for a period of time.

I'm just trying to be "Galleon ready" for all 3 continents. And doing WOs for faction is required. By the time I have the faction required, I'll probably be close to 50 and then just feel the necessity to finish it off.
