Default Streetlights,torches....in, out, or just the graphics card?

I was running through New Targonor yesterday and happened to not have my torch on, and as I was approaching the elevator area coming from the docks it just hit me that the street and house lights at the bridge actually cast bright light on the ground! You could even see your shadow move as you went by them. But only in this one area of this town, move away from the area and the streetlights are just lights in the air, no light cast from them. And close to the elevator there is a bonfire and it cast light also.

It made such a difference there, that area seemed to be far more alive than in other areas of the game, where there are lights along roads, porch and street lights, but no light hitting the area around them, and maybe there's light inside rooms/houses, maybe not and it's totally dark. (Ca'ial Brael)

What I'd like to know is whether this is a 'hidden surprise area' or is my graphics card (7800gt) kerflooey, as I've not seen any, to my knowledge and quick checking at night around the game with my various alts, any ambient lighting from these sources elsewhere -in areas that I've been to.

It sure looks better that's for sure.

I think most the game at night seems super dark, no matter how you adjust things, I really look forward to day time, as I can see again! I hope one day they add a bigger torch for us, or light the areas a bit, like when there is a full moon!

But more lighting does make it look nicer, than just gloomy everywhere

Oh, and I wish they'd move our 'torch' light source back just a bit behind us over our shoulder, then our characters wouldn't look like dark ghost phantoms at night while everyone else is bright and colorful.

I think the overall "darkness" of the game will be something we are stuck with. Sigil has heard sooo many complaints and have yet to do anything about it.

It will be the first game I feel has really given me some eye strain. On an LCD even.

It's not your graphics card. Very few light sources cast actual light in this game. I assume it is so to help performance but it really hurts the visual appeal of the game, Since you mentioned NT, check the tunnel leading into NT. Overhead there are large chandeliers. The tunnel floor shows evidence of light being cast on it from overhead but the lit areas of floor do not coincide with those chandeliers. Looking up I see no evidence of lights on those chandeliers in any event. That could be part of the poping issue though - perhaps I just can't get close enough to them.

Running down a road at night would look so much more appealing if lanterns along the road actually cast some light. It's a shame, properly enabled, some areas of this game might look quite appealing due to lighting.

I've seen a few places where dynamic lighting is implemented. Definitely spotty thus far, but if the process has started, it's possible it will continue and more light sources and shadows will be made dynamic.

Has anyone paid attention to the stories in Telon? It's not exactly a light, happy joy joy place.

try cranking up your "gamma" setting to something like 150% you get night vision as if it was a full moon.

it does ruin the immersion as light sources and lighting gets dimished but you see just fine in dark areas.

ok a little know fact is that you have 2 torches. one is brighter than the other and is used by typein shift and the torch button. Also both can be used at the same time, giving you even more light. I figured this out the other day and it really helps. try it out.
