10g makes me a sad panda
as a level 32 adv who hasnt made many frivilous purchases, i've never even gotten close enough to smell 10g...as it stands the majority of my time doing this quest will be spent reaping hoping to score muture firegrass or silkbloom's in order to pay for it. By a longshot. thats a bummer and tba, not exactly what I was hoping the 'challenge' would be...\

...p.s. when you think about it, if a person who's primarily adventurer in playstyle wants to complete this quest at the appropriate levels they almost have to buy the gold...thought that was what we were trying to discourage right?
Please test our persistence, stamina, intellect, patience, tenacity, will, you get the point...leave the bank account out of it pls! Or fix earning potential for the adv sphere one or the other please =)

The shadowhound quest was the first thing in Vanguard that I found challenging and I gotta say that I am very happy with the end reward. Yes, the mount should be more then it is currently but its still a great thing to have. If they allowed the mount speed to scale to your level, I think this would be the single most perfect questline that Sigil has ever come up with. I would love to see more quests added to the game like this personally.

Please understand that these are my personal opinions and that I understand that a lot of you are upset over these quests, but the truth of the matter is that the quest isn't for everyone and it shouldn't be either. Just because you do want to do it shouldn't mean it should be dumbed down like the current VG trend. If you do not want to go through all the work involved in getting the mounts, then simply take the common way out and buy the 10 gold horse off the vendor in your city. I give Sigil mad props if they actually stick to their guns on this one and leave the quests as hard as they currently are. Quests like these are designed to be for the player that likes to actually earn what he/she receives in a game rather then being handed something. It is much less about it being a cool looking mount as it is a personal accomplishment when you finally complete it.

I personally feel that we have a very popular MMO to blame for the current state of todays gamers. Whatever happened to actually earning something in a game? There once was a time when getting your new chest piece of that amazing melee weapon meant something in a game. Everyone on the server knew that you were the one person for that entire week to get that one item. Yes, it was frustrating at times camping this or that but when you finally got that one piece of gear, it actually meant something to you and those that helped you. There is a massive difference between you getting an item that only has the chance of dropping once per week per server and an item that up to 500 people per server can get. I know everyone wants to get the end game items etc but the honest truth is that just because you pay your monthly subscription, doesn't mean you are entitled to see everything in a given game nor should have access to all the loot / toys the game has to offer. You should need to spend a good deal of time accomplishing things such as the Shadowhound or Unicorn.

I am hoping that these 2 quests are a sign of things to come from Sigil to be honest. The "core" gamer does not want things handed to them anymore, that is why we put our faith in Vanguard. Making the game easier to level and gain gear like that other MMO has only hurt the game rather then draw to it. Maybe things will start to change, who knows.

Again, these are all just personal opinions and should be taken as such. Sorry to have rambled on =/

First of all, let me say I applaud your well thought out post. Don't see a lot of those on forums these days. But now, on to the point of this post...

What part of the quest was challenging? Personally, I don't find much challenge in Kill X of Creature Y quests, particularly when you have to do so many of them (and when the quest requires you to kill so many). I would have preferred it to have far less Kill X of Creature Y quests and more "boss" fights (preferrably ones that you use an item to summon so you don't have to stand in line or risk someone killstealing).

have to agree with this reply. honestly this quest is way to long to end up with a 10 gold mount. sorta lame and a let down.

The quest has been live for a day and you already have it. Do you consider that a 'good deal of time'?

Agree 100% I don't want people who can't even make 10g at 30+ getting this mount. It is NOT hard to make 10g in this game. I am an adventurer with a boat and lots of bought upgrades and still have 30+ gold to spend. Oh I also send gold to the guild bank daily.

Wasn't the quest supposed to be for 20-30ish people? Also, the reason many people seem to be arguing with the 10g cost isn't the gold itself, it's that they have to do such a long, boring quest AND pay 10g.

You are also level 44.. this quest line is intended for mid-20's up to 30. Grats on totally dominating that content 20 levels under you, but do try to step outside your own little world on occasion.

heh, your the first adventurer I've heard say that, well unless you were one of those who blasted levels right out of the gate and make alot of 'new' sales. /shrug.

..as to your tone, /yawn. You can triple the quest, amounts of mobs, etc though a small raid in there I dont care...or they can start dropping cash from mobs...but right now making cash for the pure adv just isnt all that easy. And up until today sure it was an issue but seeing significant cash amounts thrown into quests this early is just lame. When looking at this quest you cant forget that its intended for low to mid 20's to low 30's, the only people I knew with that kind of cash flow are crafters, at that level. Period. A few select harvesters we're able to take advantage of the housing / boating boom but /shrug, that sure aint all of us adventure's.

At level 20 I had around 20g also you can't complete the mount quest until level 30 if i'm not mistaken.

Actually I am taking my time and enjoying the game(i'm level 44). Because I'm a super nice guy I will tell you some of my super duper easy ways to make cash. Go to the Broker(yes there are brokers in Vanguard) and look up droped items that sell for alot. Then go to curse and find out where they drop and farm them and sell.....walaa your freaking rich lol. Seriously don't be lazy this I figured out all by myself. Honestly I don't mean to have a bad tone and piss people off but some people are lazy and whinny and it gets old.

Edit: Please don't quote all adventures when some of us make plently of cash.

No you won't. I'm only 33 on my main and have over 30G that I aquired honestly. I am a straight adventurer.

Leave the jealousy out of it. I'm sorry that you haven't been as fortunate with drops, selling, killing humanoids for cash, whatever but don't start fingering folks as gold buyers just bacause they happen to be able to complete a quest that you can't.

One day you will be able to complete it too.

They are just lazy plain and simple. I'm with you making cash is easy in this game.

Where the heck do you get the snake eggs for the "A Riddle of Cats and Reptiles" portion at Strand of the Ancients? I've killed about 30 snakes so far and gotten 0 drops, so I'm not sure if that's the right idea. Anyone?

Thats fine im glad some thing is being done.

I find it very funny that the word "intended" is being used if thats what you intended the stats to be then why are the stats what they are. Why not just tell the truth and say ok we are going to up the stats cuz so many ppl are pissed and we want you all to be happy and enjoy our game.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok now there have ben a few ppl saying that the quest should take a large amount of time like around a week for the average player and thats fine. I on the other hand am not an average player I have a very large amount of time to play. I started on this quest about an hour befor the servers went down the second time that was about 11:00am for me when I stoped for the night and was still not done with the quest it was 5:45am.

Now idk about you but thats alot of time put in with nothing to show for it yet and on top of it all I still have proly 2x that left to go if I count the time its gona take to make the 10g to compleat the quest.

I could have spent about 9hrs with a good group and not spent a single copper and got a 70 speed camle from arena. Now some will say "yeah but it dont look as cool" well my responce to that is it only took me 9 hours of play to get its just as fast and im 10g richer + I have left over arena tokens to put twards my weapon. Sounds alot better to me but hey its just my opinion.

Sorry, I guess I should have been more clear in my comment. The challenge in the quest comes from the fact that if you are of the level intented to start the questline, which did not apply to me personally because I am a 50 necro, it is truely a challenge to complete it. Yes, its just a lot of killing 30 of this and 20 of that but for the level intended, this is a lot of work and it is very challenging for them.

Again, sorry for the confusion =/

Default Shadowhound Quest Item Reward List

I am posting this because I have yet to see it done here on the forums. I thought it might be good to post all the gear that you get along the way. I also point out three pieces that for a high level 20 or low 30's they aren't bad at all. I would consider this quest line something to be done over several weeks and while doing it you will level quite a bit. Start it at 25. Do it with a solid group all the time. You will be 30+ by the time you finish most likely. And hence will be able to use the mount.

So here is the screen shot attached. I have with my PC on the mount and all the items you get along the way. Obviously these items are caster items.

Ring -> Gloves -> Amulet -> Bracers -> Leggings -> Saddlebags -> Mount

Also I hear rumors that the mount stats aren't correct and that they are changing them to make it better. I do not know if this is true or not. Also I have tested to see if horseshoes work or not on the mount. To my knowledge they work and I hope they continue to work. I don't know if my barding works but it's equipped within my Mount stat screen.

It was a long hard grind. About 18 hours at level 40 Necro. Most of it solo and only the last 3 parts with one other PC.

Good luck to all!

Edit add: According to patch notes on test server:
- The unicorn and shadowhound mounts are now set to their correct stats: Speed 70 and Stability 50.

So go buy a camel then. You are mad because you couldnt finish it in 1 days worth of work? Noone should be able to finish something like this in one day IMO.

I agree with everything you said except for blaming WoW... Levels are easy, but to get substantial PvP rewards or the raid rewards takes WEEKS of effort... Ppl here blame it too easily... but a good, mature post.. which means it should not be here on SV.

Ha ha ha, I agree here. These mounts shouldn't be easy to get....and the flying mounts should be very hard to get.
