Default Where are the boss fights?

I am really enjoying VG right now, but I know of something specific that is missing.

Meaningful boss fights.

My guild did Graystone over the weekend. The final quest rewards you with what many consider the best weapons in the game at this time. To complete this quest we had to summon and kill several bosses in a row.

It was so easy it was a joke. Our lvls were 40-44, right around the lvl of the summoned mobs. I was all ready to put up every defensive measure my disciple could muster, to spam heals if needed and convert/ration energy.

I don't think the tank dipped below 80% health once. Nobody else was in danger. The same thing happened when we killed the 6dot "Lord of Graystone" (not positive about the title, but he's supposed to be "the boss"). He looked awesome, but his challenge was underwhelming.

Please, give us some real boss fights! I didn't leave WoW to play a game that was EASIER!

You decided when to do the dungeon, you made it easy on yourself. If you're that concerned with difficulty then have some self limitations.

You would not be saying it was easy if the group was 37-41.

You would be lvl 42 from 37 before you end up farming.

The only thing that would make those fights harder on a lvl 37-41 group would be *MISS* *MISS* *MISS* *MISS*

You can get that effect from any MMO. I think VG has so much to offer, so much potential, but I haven't felt any kind of challenge since somewhere around lvl 20 (unless attempting content that far outlvls you, which shouldn't be the requirement for "challenge").

My answer to all that is to take my time with the lvls, work on crafting etc, so that I have a chance to hit "upgraded" content before 50. Then maybe there will also be some good endgame/raid content when I get there, too.

i agree, the only hard fight i have ever incounterd in VG was the CiS chain boss fight, being in like the 2nd grp to ever do it in live we were well under lvl and undergeared for the fight, and it was FUN, b/c it was long and hard. But now that fight and chain is a easy pile of crap. If you try to do anything at the right lvl it will be easy, only way to get a challnge out of the game is to do dungeons at a lower lvl or fight half nakie!

I haven't seen or heard of boss fight scripting that made it fun similar to WoW... where they had bombs that came at you from different directions, or group lulls in the middle, waves of monsters, AoEs at points in the fight, etc...

I had a ton of hard fights in Vanguard, and consistently got whiped all the time, at all levels, in all kinds of parties. What are you doing anyway that you dont ever get into trouble ? Do you never test your limits ? Or do you have such uber gear and skills that you rush even through red quests and mobs with ease ?

There is difference between:
Difficulty because of standard fight mechanics - as was said do quest naked, or too high quest. The difficulty is then caused by standard mechanics because of skills like "you will hit in 95% when fighting equal level".

Difficulty because of design - scripted encounters with some randomness, unique behaviours etc. Spawning ads according to ppl in fight etc.

The boss fights means the script difficulty. Not by fighting 10 lvls higher mob.

Again : Pantheon last fight

Btw, Pantheon so far, is the best dungeon I have seen, in terms of Reward, Lore, Fun, Challenges. Whoever designed the zone did an awesome job and should make more interesting dungeon like that.

The most scripted events are prolly kicking Lord of Greystone and Champion in the Arena;-)

I think the problem is that they decided to make the death penalty "hardcore" and then decided that would make tough battles too frustrating to have to CR 5 times to learn it. So they designed battles so a halfway competant group could beat it first try.

My guild has always worked upward on dungeons. Start when the mobs are red, leave when they turn blue. I think the problem is partly the "soft cap" on gear. When half your gear is 5 lvls above you, it makes content pretty easy.

I have felt an inverse difficulty curve through the VG levels. When I was a lowbie, dungeons were tough (undergeared). As we get higher, they just get easier. That is backwards! Even con dungeons should provide challenge.

Compare Graystone, Dargun's Tomb, Thelaseeen (I am only 41 now, so I havne't done anything higher than Graystone) to WoW dungeons like Dire Maul or Stratholm. The latter were much more difficult. I remember wiping in those dungeons with full raid-geared guild groups when we weren't careful. I am not even going to bring raid content into this discussion.

Anyway, call it constructive criticism. I want to see this game thrive, but I hope they can tweak it to put the challenge back into the game that was supposed to be more challenging. If the only criteria for "hard" content is going to be lvl difference bc you can't hardly hit the mobs, so be it. But that will make me sad .
