I guess this means that I should just go back to EQ.... I got a free 30 day come back to us thing and it turns out its got a lot of the same stuff vanguard has... the biggest tradeoff is you get better performance for lesser graphics.
The best part is that their 19.99 anniversary edition will get anyone every expansion released so far no matter where you left off.

To the guy on the first page who said Sony ruined SWG with NGE, you would be incorrect where you place your blame.
That was entirely and solely Lucas Arts doing.
You're just giving Sony credit for a LA mistake and that's a dangerous thing to do.
That's like saying EQ1 wasn't always sony, all those good times you had in EQ1 CAME FROM SONY.
(Notice that Verant was owned by 989 Studios which was part of Sony Computer Entertainment of America)
Just for fun here is the original EQ1 cover art, look in the LOWER LEFT CORNER.
So quit yer bitchin' and consider that maybe if you welcome a company that has many successful games, and is one of the leading figures in the gaming industry, with all the money in the world to fend off lawsuits over DRM-CDs and Dual Shock controllers, you might get Vanguard to become the game it was promised to be.

Everyone always raises a stink with SOE and SWG:NGE...don't look at SOE, it was Lucas Arts. Look at EQ2, SOE turned that game around and ever since the Echoes of Faydwer expansion, it's a wonderful game! I'd still be playing EQ2 if it weren't for Vanguard launching. (I don't have time for 2 MMO's).
As with TTH's News post on this topic and now SV's News post...you're both doing a disservice by putting this rumor in your News section like it's a fact. Let the General Forums handle rumors and when/if it becomes FACT, THEN put it in the News.

You're sort of right about this, but this makes it an important issue for Sigil to comment on now.
It will pretty much destroy all rumors of a buyout, or confirm it.
General forum chat tends to be ignored, but headline news is probably going to get attention.
although I see it as, if thats what it takes to turn Vanguard into the game we want it to be, then so be it.

No way.

They may want to go out that way...its a lot of money I am sure. Plus they'll probably stay on as employees of SOE.

um hate to burst your bubble of truth there, but SOE was in cahoots with LA with the NGE, and you are kidding yourself if you think otherwise. There is irrefutable proof in forum posts and summit meetings that clearly show Julio, Smed and others were COMPLETELY on board with it, and came up with alot of the changes - LA wanted it to happen, and the SOE folks happilly agreed. Not ALL of them agreed or liked it, but it's extremely foolish to think that alot of the core people weren't in bed with LA over the idea.
Anyhow, if nothing else SOE will ensure financially that Van will continue, which is a good thing.

Waaait. Have you ever heard of Star Wars Galaxies? Matrix online? successful games? They took and gutted fine games and made them into husks of anything that is entertaining. You sound waay too enthusiastic to be a standard user. In fact it's a well known fact that moles have been planted to sow the seeds of distrust! Everyone! Get em!

Cristof is correct
SOE bought out Monolith and now Matrix Online is rotting on the station pass. I believe it has one full time Dev and possibly one content patch every six months. A SOE buyout may not be a good thing in th e long run. What would happen if Vanguard only saw a patch every six months?

Well to be fair, Matrix was a horrible wretched game from the start, there was never any hope there at all, heh

You don't need a finance degree to understand the math on this one. SOE has considerable financial resources, a deep development pool, and the bandwidth required to fill this vast world with playable content. Sigil could do it, given time, but you can only put so much red ink on the books before people start making decisions for you. I, for one, would rather see SOE get the rights than to watch Vanguard die on the vine...and heck, these guys won't even have to relocate.

Look at the server pops - Low, Low, Low, Low, most of the time anyway - a trend is apparantly growing. PVP servers are even worse (as it appears anyway from my own experience and word of mouth - for what that's worth), LOTRO went live today ... PVM (plyer vs monster player) is incredible...expansion pack slated for June is a free download...so you get some real pvp experiences with way more development to come (without being griefed by Johnny Gamer while you are crafting)...
Age of Conan in a few months is looking fantastic...
Point is the small pops will get smaller as these other mmorpgs go live. Perhaps it's the pvp servers that were the most ignored but I'm sure some of you pve only folks are a tad on the bored side as well.
I can see the future of VG being an SOE buy out and merged servers..easily.
Good luck folks...I loved so many aspects of the game..but I'm tired of disappointment and there was absolutely no pvp development team...heck you can still faction farm - lol 'cmon...anyway my Sig says it all.

Ok, I will agree with this, game starts, everything dips, SWG had it from COH and so on. Aside from the fact this is coming from a pvper, this is a well thought out post.
AoC from what I understood is forced pvp on all servers, so you enjoy that ^^
SoE will lose me and anyone I can bring with me, including my guild, if they take this over. we lived through one SoE occupation and "vision", Named the NGE and CU.
We will not make that mistake again. I'm willing to be alot of you who remember why we came hear from those shattered lands feel the same. Join me in a combined shout of defiance. Demand and answer! Victory or Death! Ok thats a bit much. Victory or Cancel! there

I will post what I did over at TTH to keep my love of community managers everywhere equal
Quote:
|
To the community managers, rumors are just that, rumors. If you dont' want to spread rumors then don't continue them. I personally feel it is inappropriate NEWS and by posting this RUMOR you are inciting emotions. Many of your community members will be quite upset by this rumor which you have now labeled as NEWS and it does no good to your community, to the Vanguard community as a whole, or to the game itself. You may feel by addressing the rumor you have "nipped it in the bud" but as far as I have seen there was not much word about this before you mentioned it.
|
In reference to no response by Sigil:
Quote:
|
I don't think they address every rumor that comes down the pike. For example, the rumor of server merge has been floating since day one. They dont' really address that either, why no NEWS on that. To assume failure to answer a question "Means something" is a bad assumption, they could just not want to talk about something they feel is incidental. Yes there could be talks in progress but what good is it to upset eveyrone when even those talks could fall through tomorrow.
|
and on what the definition of news is in today's society:
Quote:
|
The NEWS section is to report NEWS. Apparently you feel that NEWS is what most NEWS people feel it is today. Anything they can sensationalize and get most viewers, readers, what have you. Sanity and unfortunately accuracy and source checking has nothing to do with it and no matter what you dress it up as it is still that pig in silk. Next time just post something like "Brad is the father of Anna Nicoles baby!" it would be much more fun.

You want better PvP. Meh, your cup of tea. LotRO is shallow, if you like it, your cup of tea. AoC. PvP. What about everybody else? WAR? PvP. Darkfall? PvP (admittedly though, I'm starting to pay more attention to Darkfall).
However, it seems to me, my server seems to be as populated as ever. During March, it seemed bleak, but now I am witnessing more activity and all signs point to an increase in population. Crafting areas are packed. Docks are filled with boats. I see more and more people as I travel around. Still, I'd like to see more population, so server merges wouldn't hurt. Though, since I'm on an RP server, it is doubtful any server will be merged with it.

Good lord it's only a matter of time before they figure out a way to cross the tears and Initiate Server Vs. Server forced PVP, SVSFPVP for short o.-
Your server is in fact increasing in size, all the signs you point to I will confirm, which is why this blindsides me.
