I eventually capitulated. I'm playing, and actually enjoying it. I don't think that everything they did has been great, but they've addressed a lot of the things that I was having issues with.

Brad seems to post most things about 3 AM, so don't hold your breathe.

Maybe he's sifting through the chatter to see what our biggest concerns are so he can address those things specifically?

One can hope.

That would be Bizarro Brad. I don't think the rift has opened from the parallel universe yet.

DC, you have been on OVF and you know how Brad worked with the community there. For you to deny that all just to cause waves is sad. You know better.

That's true loam... you can't accuse McQuaid of being "the quiet one". He's usually been good about keeping us posted... granted he does it in the most positive light possible but at least he stays in touch.

You're right, I do. He did great up until, oh, about the first wave of Beta invites. Then "managing expectations" went right out the window. His posting became less and less frequent, as did that of the rest of the Sigil staff. And when they did, it was a lot of double-talk, spin, and outright lies.

And look, I'm a pretty damned fair person. Because of that, I have NO problem calling a spade a spade. I've posted plenty about what they've done that I liked, but I'll equally speak my mind about what I don't. So far, P.R. and Customer Service have been the weakest links in the Sigil chain. If these links weren't so weak, we probably wouldn't have the crap subscriber base that we have now, not to mention the hatred for the company that's basically seething beneath the surface of just about every FANsite out there.

Oh i'm sure he's looking at posts, and also having others sift as well and giving him the drift of what the buzz is...

But all this so he can prepare his patented spin in such a way to paint the pretty picture and make everything palatable....

It won't work

Hah, all Brad ever posted was spin.

'Beta is great, we have thousands logging in and loving it!'

'I remain bullish on a million subs after a year, Vaguard is just that good right now and it's only getting better!'

Please. He dodged critical issues, and only served to fuel the hype train which ran out of gas months before launch.

Yeah, this used to crack me up as I would log in and never see more than about 80 people online at the peak times, and less than 20 off-peak. All the way up to Beta 4. Then it would top 200 from time to time, but rarely more than 175. It wasn't until the semi-open beta that there was anything even remotely approaching a server population.

Way to mention a couple of his posts during beta and skipping over 98% of his other posts, which was to post and talk about game design, ask players whether such & such things would work, and talked about what they want to do with the game (which some were implemented).

Hell he even admitted to releasing the game early due to financial issues. This is the CEO of a company speaking to the community. And all you guys can do right now is talk crap on him? Why? Because the game didn't hit your expectation? Or because the game can use some help because he mis-managed the budget & development cycle?

Come on, the guy wants the game to succeed, he isn't out to get you so imo the only people spinning atm are people that try to bash Brad without being fair.

Huge understatement there DC

It was max 15-1600 in b3 then dropped to 1/3 4-600 (peak login time)

It pretty much maintained that average droopping maybe to 400 avg...

But never was it less than 100 avg at peak.

What I saw in trends was that it played OK up to about L10-20, then got dull as hell as you were used to the repetition and grind, then struggled to log in and play... even alts were dull by then...

That was for most... some of these peeps love to be trained like labratory rodents.

Sounds like you guys only read the evangelical posts that get tossed on the devtracker. Yes, some of his posts are the "CEO" type but in discussing details he gets simple and talks about a lot. For the later most of the time, he gets raked over the coals by people who nitpick details simply because he is the CEO, so I think he has learned to do that less. You know of any other game developer who would discuss his views of gun control or God with us?

But Atoy is right that in situations like this, he goes into CEO mode for half-truths and parsed words. I figure it's part of the job. He probably should not think he has to force everything to make it sound like it's good for the game (thus sounding forced and hypnotized) but he feels the need to preach about the positive aspects. The whole "ultimately good news" shows that he must have major spin and everything is really doomed.

Granted, I didn't log in every day in beta, but I never, saw the login numbers around 9:00pm EST get above a couple hundred until after Beta 4.

You would be happy with a game with however many subscribers. Pay for it you got the money. Make it 7 corporations now in the MMO industry. Since you have followed this game for so long I'm sure you knew Brad was strapped for cash Specially after having to pay up to buy the right back for his baby from MS. I'm sure Brad and Sigil would have met with you had you told them you were interested in becoming another investor.
I was thinking the same thing but honestly, I think he's full of it.

I think you're just looking at the type that believes, "I walked to school everyday barefoot, in the snow, uphill, during a blizzard! You kids these days just want easy-mode. You don't know what it takes to work hard, appreciate what you have and eat beans for dinner!"

He can't stand people who threw the beans out the window, climbed the sprouted stalk and found a golden egg and some giants to have fun with on the way to becoming a skilled gamer. He's a firm believer that you must be miserable while attaining the endgame or you're not doing it right. And if you're getting no satisfaction out of being miserable, you're just a spoiled brat who wants "instant gratification".
