Real life money being a viable ingame investment.
People botting to get through content.
The people who play them. (Those who think they have a right to make other people unhappy on a regular basis, for no reason other than boosting their own lousy self-esteem)

Just to name a few.

To me, from experience, the #1 is the IGE's of the world. Those people tend to really trash the economy over time, and are disruptive in the game world.

Take WoW for example. If you check the auction house's you'd usually find most epics and a lot of the nice blue's bought out by the farmers (Just about everyone on whichever server knows who they are for that server). They then reprice them, usually, astronomically high to force you to buy their gold. That, or you have to farm yourself for a long time to acquire that gold.

That in turn makes you run into the farmers/bot'rs IN the gameword who try to monopolize the good areas and force you out by any way possible. (Usually they train you, try to kill you if on a PvP server, etc).

It gets so bad its sickening.

Find out tomorrow night at the end of the show.

Then, if you disagree, you can make your case in IRC or Ventrilo.

But in any case, let's hear your thoughts. This should be fun.

For me, the problem is attitudes. This is because it is the same attitudes that cause IGE invasion, botting, and all sorts of other problems.

Increasingly the emphasis of MMORPGs is moved off of enjoying the content, the story. Experiencing the world. Instead players are encouraged to grind to the end-game. Fantasy worlds just become number crunching platforms.

Once people have ground through the world, enjoying a fraction of the content, they then complain about there not being enough for them to do.

People can devote different amounts of time to MMORPGs, but games need to do something to make sure players can enjoy everything along the way.

The biggest problem with MMO's today is that there's none in release that I feel like playing.

To go in another direction with this thread. A huge problem I've found with a lot of games lately is seeing them being dumbed down to the lowest common denominator

Omg!!1! it's the sexy clothes of course! Closely followed by the amount of voilence! Whacking people with swords...indeed...you realize those are just shiny phallic symbols don't you?! Oh the horror of it all!

Actually what bothers me most is the dumbed down aspect. This goes hand in hand with the get-to-the-end-as-fast-as-possible mentality.

It is my belief that the reason we have dumbed down-speed-trip to-the-end games is because there are plenty of people out there who like that sort of thing.

Ok, no problem, now they have lots of games to choose from. I had almost given up on game developers though. I was afraid they were no longer interested in the section of the market who wanted challenge and a slower trip.

Which brings me to the "grind" part. Challenge shouldn't mean having the patience to sit and grind just for the sake of leveling. *sigh* Of course I'm not a visionary and I don't know exactly what I want when it comes to challenge. I do know what I don't want though. I don't want easy. I don't want monotonous.

Finding the thin line between those two is going to be a tall order for game devs I think but I hope they don't give up on our part of the market. I hope they keep trying to make challenging games, especially the mmorpg variety.

So, my issue with games is that so many of them are too easy, too monotonous or just plain uninteresting.
