So are you like the resident news reporter? I mean, it's cool when there is a wacky story that is sure to spark discussion, but I think most of us can navigate to cnn.com and read the headlines of the day if we cared. The entire first page is nothing but a bunch of 0-1 reply posts. I know the forums are dead and all, but I don't think this is the way to breathe life into them.

Not cranky at all, just bewildered/annoyed. 23 of the 40 posts on the front page are your news stories. Most of them have 0, or at most 1-2 replies. I just find it unnecessary and it's borderline spam really.

At least S/He is making an attempt to begin a conversation. Although yeah the circumcision piece isn't controversial it's still an honest attempt at getting the community involved in SOMETHING.

Thank you Kildest

This is about a VA school that doesn't allow any touching (hugs, pokes, high fives) seems to be a bit over board to me

BTW I'm a "she"

Np.

Heh I particularly enjoy this quote:

"You get into shades of gray," Kilmer Principal Deborah Hernandez said. "The kids say, 'If he can high-five, then I can do this"

Makes sense to me. If it was me and I saw someone high-five another, I'd assume I'd be able to grab any chick's ass I wanted.

Personally, I always look for your posts , you subscribe to much different news feeds than I, with more human interest while I read mostly straight political stuff. Dont stop now !

1. The lady in that artical is stupid. Circumcision is done for medical reasons. It helps prevent otherwise common infections and diesease.

2. Any developmental psychologist will tell you that "touching"(in the form of hi5's, hugs ect...) is a natural and important part of maturing and bonding. Girls and boys express this diferently in form of play fighting for boys or huging for girls. It is a nessicary skill for adulthod both in the work force and at home.

Also their PE classes must REALY suck! Can you imagin the flashlight football or put-put hocky they must be playing????????????????????

I watch PBS late at night

Idiots are intentionally ruining the development of our children in an effort to save them from...ummm...what exactly?

"They've seen pokes lead to fights" -- OMFG! Not fights! Some of my longest lasting friendships started out as fist fights.

"gang signs in the form of handshakes" -- Yep. If you stop the handshakes the gangs will disappear. After all, gangs are all about hand shakes, signs and bandanas.

"girls who are uncomfortable being hugged but embarrassed to say anything" -- Teach your girls to SAY SOMETHING. Teach your girls to SAY NO. Teach your girls to KICK IN THE BALLS IF NO IS IGNORED.

Basically, we try to make sure our kids don't have to deal with ANY confrontation. That's a great way to prepare them for a world busting at the seems with it. Lazy caretakers, this is.
