Need help to tweak my rig for this game.
I've been experimenting alot these days on the infamous CTD.
I like to play on highest performance and run well until i CTD. My wife was saying that the problem is my rig since hers do not CTD as often as mine (she is running under lowest setting... crappy computer)
I denied this idear and started to experiment. If i get on balanced, i get 80 to 95+ FPS almost everywhere and never CTD... only seems that it's when i try to get every bit of bells and wistle from the game.
I would like some input on witch option i could tweak in order to have the best quality without CTD....
here is my Rig:
CPU: C2D 6600 (@3200Mhz)
Mobo: EVGA 680! SLI
GPU: EVGA 8800GTS 640m (@950/600)
memory: Corsair XMS2 4x1Gb (@850)
Audio: (onboard)
... rest is not relevant...
Thx in advance for your help on this one... i have a good rig but need help to tweak for this game.

The problem is the poo code that Sigil put in. Those who don't have the CTD issue are more lucky than they are 'safe' due to the hardware they have.
Getting off of that will give you a huge increase.
X-Fi XtremeGamer $90 full price, as low as $50 if you catch the right rebate.

You can try the settings I used to use. From what I experimented with back in the day, setting anything higher really didn't make a visible difference.
Re: the CTD
Regardless of if it is the code's fault or the systems' fault, you really shouldn't stick around somewhere that causes it to repeatedly happen. A crash is like a mini-heart attack. Though it may seem harmless, every now and then your system can be permanently damaged. I'd recommend that if you can't fix it by changing settings you consider quitting the game until it is fixed. In this case there is nothing wrong with your hardware, the problem lies in the Sigil code.

Thx alot for the good tips in your reply, i will try your setting and see... as for quitting the game... i'm too addicted to it for that...lol! i'm a smoker too!
Analogy? i might die by smoking, my hardware might fail as well on this game... but cannot quit yet... not ready for that... lol

Also if it is the same setup as the normal Audio chip you want to avoid it, as it's a gimped down version of the X-Fi line.
In theory, there should be no diff between the PCI and PCIe version of the same card. I asked Creative Labs back in the day why they didn't go PCIe and they said that it wouldn't be of benefit to the chip because it doesn't need the bandwidth.

I am little late to this thread, but may help others out.
VG will not harm your computer when you crash. If you do crash, XP or Vista should be able to still work when the game goes splat. Not going into details, but XP is suppose to recover from a software crash and close it out if you window out, but unfortunately it doesn't happen that way.
If your computer is reseting, do not blame VG, its your hardware, something is wrong and the OS is shutting down the system because its checksum is not going well.
XP and vista have built in checks and if that didn't pass the test it will reset or give you that famous blue screen of death.
Best way to run a buggy or very extensive game, its to do burn in on your computer, with differant software out there on the web. Like CPU torture test and mems checks and looping 3d testers. Be warned, some of these test will increase temps by 5-15 c, so make sure your case cooling is up for it.
Once your computer can pass those tests without errors for 24h, then your rdy for about everything on the market. It keep you sane, knowing your system is up to par and can take it.
Last thing, what other have said here, about the sound card, they 100 % right. Onboard sound is taking allot of CPU cycles and slowing down the systems. If you turn sound off, and I don't mean mute or the volume, taking it off, no sound. VG will crash allot less, and you be surprise how well it runs. Must be allot of code issues with sound and VG.
