Default ddr1 in a ddr2 motherboard???

Please skip all the flames about why I would do this.....But can you use ddr1 pc3200 ram in a mb that supports ddr2 800 as the standard....I know you can use any lower ddr2 ram....but what about ddr1...it would save me some money.

No, the chips use a different physical interface.

DDR2 is cheap right now anyway. You can get 2gigs for $75 or less if you go for a rebate.

yes you can, but you need to use a DDR1->DDR2 adapter. You will also find the only place you can get these is Japan and they aren't cheap. I doubt the shipping costs will be either and you will be running the risk of incompatibilies... It will work out cheaper for you to buy DDR2 memory, or a board that has both types of slots on it. Now, if I could only find an adapter that would let me shove DDR2 into a DDR1 slot...

Bottom line recommendation, buy DDR2 and sell your DDR1. DDR2 is much cheaper than DDR 1 so you will get a big chunk of your cost back by selling your old memory.

Browsing around on newegg, I find that DDR2-800 goes for $37 for 1GB and $55 for 2GB. New DDR1 memory actually costs more than that, but I'm guessing you're trying to reuse old memory. Let the DDR1 memory go.
