Default Again with Headphones/Headsets

So I've recently gone to a gaming center a few times and they had these super fancy headsets I tried out last night. They didn't seem better than my cheap-o ones I had in terms of clarity / volume. (Although it may have been and I just couldn't hear the difference because it wasn't quiet enough in there.)

So... people's thoughts? Is it just about comefort? Is there a difference in tonal range an quality of sound? Is there a difference in volume potential? More than 2.0 sound, real or hype?

Since some people are limited to headset use, I'm considering recmmending some at my site. Infos would be appriciated. Here's some I've peeped using my headset noobness...

Creative Lab's Fatal1ty
These are the fancy ones I used at the game center. Super comefey, as the foam bits seemed to go around my ears.

Logitech
Looks like it could also have the same comefort, but at a very reasonable cost.

Logitech USB version
This version is way more expensive, yet looks to have the exact same design and capabilities? It's just got a USB so that makes it worth more? Why is USB better than the regular jack that goes into a sound card?

Razer Barracuda
Way expensive, supposedly has surround sound by using multiple speakers. Does that even work that close together? Seems like a huge price hike. Cool design and nice boost if it actually works. Seems like a steep price though, as that's as much as better 5.1 sets cost.

SteelSeries
Again, 7.1 sound claim. But it requires drivers?

My feeling is that comfort is the winner every time. After all gamers wear their earphones for a long time, so the slightest pinch can ultimately become a serious pain. I've currently got a pair of Creative HS-600s, comfy to start but they rapidly feel like you have your head in a vice. Indeed, I've struggled to find a comfy set of proper phones, so I'm currently using earbuds (Creative Zen) which take much longer to become uncomfortable for me. Of course that isn't the same for everyone; my other half can't deal with buds at all.

Sound wise, I've gone through loads of headsets and tested some of the 5.1+ gear (not noticeably 5.1 IMHO and bulky to boot). Debatable surround sound aside, I've got to say so long as you pay a reasonable price the sound quality quickly becomes difficult to distinguish*. If in doubt the brand names are usually a good bet (Sennheiser etc.) but if there's a gain to be had from really expensive sets then they are lost on a tone deaf bum like me.

Gift.
*notable exception, I find that bigger headset speakers tend to have much better bass.

Yeah I did get a chance to try some ear buds (like $15 retail I think) and I noticed they didn't sound as good as my Logitech gamer ones I normally use. (Which were like $18. An early version of the Supra-aural) They were small, but the sound quality just wasn't as good, so it seems you are paying for portability / smallness and just don't get the same quality as full sized ones. I guess that has to do with how small the speaker parts have to be.

But again, I'm not sure if the $50 Creative labs ones I tried at the game center sounded better than those. They were super comfy and I used them for like 5-6 hours and they didn't bug me at all, while my Logitech ones start to sqwoosh my ears after a few hours.

I have heard these are very comfy and have amazing sound quality, I'm looking to pick up a pair when my cheapo Logitech ones wear out >.>

They are the middle of the road headphones for PC at Turtle Beach, I am a fan of the Circumaural type headphones because they have comfort and amazing sound+ true noise canceling

Turtle Beach has headphones for PC, Xbox and Wii. Check out their other models if you are looking for cheaper headphones, or fancier ones :P
