Default SSD issues?

Looking at a new build and considering a solid state drive for one of the drives......maybe the C:?

Are there any issues I should be aware of, like effective lifespan? Are they better suited to mass storage rather than day to day access as a C: drive?

The biggest issue is the cost. They are rediculously expensive for what you are getting in gain. Remember, a SSD will only decrease load times. So if you are looking for a gaming gain you'd be far better off upping that GPU, even to dual high-end graphics before going with SSD.

Does it really matter if you load a single player level in 15 seconds compared to 30, or zone in WoW in 6 seconds compared to 12? Or will it matter that you are running double the framerates all the time?

See the other thread for more discussion on 'better ways to get an increase for the money'.

If you peep my sig, you'll see that only the very most expensive 2 (of I believe 8 builds) have SSD drives.

Doesn't usage wear down SSD? If I remember right they reach their long livetime only by having alot more capacity than is available to compensate for malfunctional parts. Of course HDs do that aswell, but not to that extent.

I'd not use a SSD for important data or a primary drive due to that. Unless I'm in a professional environment with proper backups and whatnot.

Unless you are writing and rewriting to your drive constantly (you are running a server) then you won't have to worry about it. Even then it's not a big deal and will last for years.

Heavy use servers may need to worry about it, home users won't.

Just a thought but if you are worried about lifespan, tell windows to put the page file on a conventional HD rather than the SSD C drive.

Gift.
