Dunno about in the US, but the pricing seems off for these parts in the UK. The 5770 is okay, but just isn't competitive enough with the 4870/260 which are the same price or less.

The pricing here is:

< 100: 250/9800
110: 5850
130: 5770/4870/260
150: 4890/275
230: 5850*
300: 5870

There's too big a jump between 5770 and 5850 in price/performance and the 275/4890 are too dominant here.

*note the 5850 is massively in demand here, and the sweetspot in price terms so over inflated. I think the etailers are gouging on this part, and hoped to gouge on the 57xx series also - but aren't shifting stock. The 5850 is bundled with 2 games @ £30 retail, the 5850 none.

If the 5870's are going for 300 pounds I'd say that's high considering I bought one for 405 Canadian.

Google says £300 = $500 Canadian at the moment, so there is some gouging going on. The exchange rate is pretty rotten atm also.

You're not wrong about the 5850's being in demand. I checked everywhere for one,

scan
microdirect
overclockers
ebuyer
dabs
novatech

Nobody had one. Nobody! I was ringing stores asking when they were expecting delivery and nobody had a clue. I did however manage to pick one up from TheHut the woman I spoke to was extremely helpful and even rang me back to say they had 10 in customs. Arrived today and its a solid card so far
