It seems most are fully aware that the end is near but hanging on til the end. Also have noticed that Silius no longer posts, so I am sure SOE has him mostly on another project at this point. I have noticed a couple new dev names posting tho...... along with the lack of certain old devs. Wanna bet they have interns doing dev work on VG now?

"Dont even bother, but i think that come fan faire this year, they are going to break it to everyone that VG will get shut down. They didnt even put the damned free in game item for attending on the list for VG. Thats not a good thing AT ALL."

Not that VG being mostly left out of any and all press releases from SOE is anything new, but I tend to agree with you there kcxiv.
I just heard that at the fan faire that VG players will be getting an announcement. Its just something i heard. take it for what its worth, but its not going to be good i think.

They have had interns doing stuff for a while now. Its not a bad thing if you bring them in to at least put raid zones in the game. Hell, why not let them. lol

What's the point of inviting people to an event like fan faire if it's only to announce a shut down? And they all ready announced a server merge, so how bad can it be?

Maybe they'll do the announcement in the parking lot. You know, really give it that "classic" Sigil feel.

I dont think they would announce a game is shutting down.. live at a fan faire, in FRONT of the fans who just flew in/blew a lot of money to attend.

If they are announceing something at the fan faire, it has to be a positive announcement. Negative announcements get stickied to the forums before a major holiday.

Signed up for the trial for LOTRO but only played it a few minutes. I need to give it a fair shot though.

Still keep thinking about the expansive world, good art, and great class design in vangaurd. Its jsut been so so long since they have done anything i've agreed with.

When has Vanguard and positive ever been in a sentence? Them 2 just dont go together. Vanguard was good at potential. Vanguard dev's were good at lying to the fan base over and over (trust me, i took it up the ass for a whole year and i was smiling like an idiot).

That whole game was about being lied to over and over. First from Brad, then from Silius. He may have not intended to lie (maybe he did, i dont know), but in the end he freaking lied and pissed in everyones cereal. lol

The very fact that some of us are still here talking about that, shows that they did a great job at some stuff. Pity about you know... the rest.

Here is the kind of crap I am talking about:

(quoted from the offical forums in regard to the ability of rogues to craft their own poisons, recent post)

"No they let rangers make even more arrows with their mats. They did it during Rogue changes week. We asked them to tweek the poison recipes (Because they were really disorganized) and to make sure they worked (some do, some don't, and some we're not sure if they even do anything).

Instead they just removed the recipes and now make us buy the completed scrolls and poisons and stuff from a rogue vendor."

They pulled similar crap with one of the three Monk "paths" and the ranger paths , hell EVEN the necro specializations.

Instead of tweaking in place systems that added layers and variety to the game and to characters, they just deleted the system entirely and merged all the options into one, or in the case of rogue make poison ability, just put all poisons on vendors and did away with making poisons.

Since release, at every turn they chose the dumbed down path. So frusterating.

One of the things I really liked about old EQ, was all the race/class/diety combinations you could choose at char creation that had an impact on your characters life for the rest of the game. I WANT to feel "special" I WANT to know my toon is one of the only (insert rare class combo here, or rare monk/necro/whatever path/spec here) on the server.

When all people are all things, when everyone has a reindeer, when all necros are both liches and wraiths, when all rangers are both meele and range spec, etc. I do not feel "special" anymore and lose interest fast.

Very common to SOE and VG. Sadly there have been many examples over the years. It was so sad to see EE go.

I tack it up to simple minds taking the easy path.

It's called "dumbing down". Both in EverQuest and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes the approach SOE has taken to "fix" things that were "unintuitive" was to remove them entirely. Systems in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes such as Equipment Expertise, Innate KoS, corpse runs, original equipment deconstruction, etc. were all simply thrown out with the bathwater instead of trying to resolve the issues that these systems may have had. It was the "dumbing down" that made me leave EverQuest and it was "dumbing down" that made me leave Vanguard: Saga of Heroes a few years later, that and the LiveGamer bullshit.
