Default The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

I've been playing this all weekend. It is one hell of a great open world RPG. If you had thoughts about buying it, but haven't, then do yourself a favor and go get it! The performance is incredible. My friend was worried about his dual-core dated machine, but it runs it perfectly with most settings on high. It's graphically better than Oblivion. The voice acting is certainly better. The dragons are incredible. You can play in first or third person.

I'm really enjoying my stealthy archer wood elf. Archery is very satisfying. Each arrow actually sticks out of your enemy where you shot them. I just love bringing down a big giant with a dozen arrows to the face!

Take a little Dune, sprinkle in a little Highlander, and mix with a heavy dose of Oblivion and you've got Skyrim!

The game sounds very interesting, but I know I have problems with the graphics in past games of this series. I get very dizzy and have severe headaches with objects moving quickly at the side of the screen, from the walls in Doom to the flora in Oblivion. Quick moving in a detailed first-person view usually is the main culprit.

Which makes it hard to read all of the great reviews coming out of this game. It sounds like a great immersive world with lots of gameplay possibilities.

Unlike previous versions, you can play the whole thing in 3rd person, if that would help you.

I get motion sickness also, but playing in 3rd person fixes it for me. Mount and Blade got me sick, too. Especially the horse riding.

I just got Skyrim last night. My main hang-up was $59. I don't think I should pay more than $49, but I did, mainly because everyone was saying how great it was. I've only spent about an hour with it so far, but it seems pretty neat. I have to get used to the crappy UI, though. Shouldn't take too long I guess.

Like Mr. Asheman says, there is tons of crap to do. I've heard that horse riding is sort of broken atm, but mods are already starting to flow like sweet brandywine. I use this site: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/index.php

I first made a dark elf female, but re-rolled to an Imperial female because the dark elf wasn't nearly sexy enough. I'd say @$49 it is a must have and at $59 it is a luxery.

GreenManGaming.com is selling it for 10% off at $53.79. It's a digital version that you attach to your Steam account. It's not much, but it's a little bit off the $60 price.

Thanks; it's good to know. A lot of the motion sickness issue is in how the game controls are set, so I will see how the community responds.

You can change the field of view apparently. I don't know if that would help with the sickness? I don't get actual motion sickness but I do feel uneasy when the 'FOV' is too small because it feels like I'm too close to everything and it kind of fries my brain sometimes. But when I set it to about 100 or so, that usually helps.

I haven't played the game very much yet so far. I need motivation. I kinda like the Elder Scrolls games but I just wish they put more effort in to the combat. The few hours I played was as a mage and I won every fight by just holding mouse button 1 to spray everything with fire I spray for 3 seconds and everything in front of me died, and then 3 seconds later my mana had regenerated.. Hardly the kind of depth I like in an rpg I might re-start as a Ranger/Archer type because sneaking up on stuff and using the bow seems a bit more fun.

I am playing through the original Dragon Age Origins again. I quite like that game. I'll play Skyrim properly when I've finished, and hopefully there will be another patch by then.
