I don't think it was mentioned in this thread, but I found out the demo was not made by 38 Studios. EA was requiring them to make a demo and they were too busy working on the game so they hired a 3rd party studio to produce the demo. People have said the demo used a build that was several months old. I'm hoping that means there will be more PC settings to adjust or at the very least an editable .ini to make necessary tweaks.

Cool thanks! I love it when I try to forget about games and then they just appear. Sure beats waiting for one and they seem to take forever.

Nice Good news for those who buy it at least, but I hope it didn't unimpress some people unnecessarily.

From what Curt Schilling has said, he feels like although they were very much opposed to making a demo, it ended up being a very positive marketing tool.

They weren't happy with having to provide a chopped-up three-month-old beta build of their game to the public (through a third party)...but he says the number of people it turned off to the game was dramatically smaller than the number of people who had never heard of the game and are now planning to buy. Strictly from a marketing standpoint, he says EA was right...it was huge.

Any luck with FOV adjustments, Fozz? I'm on the verge of pushing the buy button and this is the only thing holding me back at this time. It's killing me!

Okay, screw it! I bought it even without finding out if FOV can be adjusted. I saw some video of someone playing the release version and the camera was scrolled back a little more from the character so the limited FOV seemed less bothersome. I sure hope someone can figure out how to tweak FOV, otherwise I'll be taking lots of Excedrin as I play.

LOL

Sorry, I'm at work. I wasn't able to download the game ahead of time from Steam, so I'll probably not be able to actually play until tomorrow. When I get home from work I'll hit the download button, but I'm sure it's going to be really slow.

I was planning to start it this morning at 4:30am when I left for work...but I forgot.

Cool thanks, got my fingers crossed for them.

p.s. As for the FOV thing, I am 99.9999999999% sure you will be able to change it, just because pretty much every RPG I've played for the past many years has let you do it. If not from the main menu, from an ini file somewhere. I'm sure it can be haxored one way or another. I plan on buying it soon, just been busy this last week or so.

I'm sure you're right, but nobody has mentioned how to tweak it, yet. Usually I can find all kinds of tweak tips just from googling the game and the item needing adjustment, but nothing is out there. I even tried using Bing to see if it gave better results and it gave worse results.

What about hooking your computer up to your TV, or just sitting really far back from your monitor? hehe

It may come to that! I usually have the TV going while I play on the computer. I'm hopeful that if a fix isn't available, I'll at least adjust over time.

It downloaded really fast. I love Steam. It's at 97% right now... I'll take a look at the files when it's done. If nobody else found it, I'm probably not going to either.

Hmmm slackers :/

Well if nothing comes soon I'm sure someone will make a hack for it. This place is full of people who make hacks and mods for games to do various things with the display:

http://widescreengamingforum.com/forum

There is a mods and tweaks sub forum and a tech support place. The population of the forum is a bit low though so things happen slowly. But I'm sure they will come up with something sooner or later. Although I am guessing the developers themselves will be looking to patch it in asap because it seems to be mentioned a lot on the web.

I've played through the tutorial up to leaving the well of souls building. The game is definitely less buggy than the demo, the graphics are a bit better, and I'm still liking the way the game play and story just pulls you in and wisks you along, and the way the combat feels so visceral.

The camera location, the fact that you can't zoom in and out or look straight up, and the FOV are really my only gripes with the game. Hopefully they'll get to work on it.

I wouldn't be surprised at obvious mistakes like the camera issues if this was a brand new startup company...but Big Huge Games has been around for quite a while and had 3+ years of development done on this game before they were bought up by 38 studios. There's really no excuse for this stuff from an experienced development house.

The only excuse I can think of is that the PC version was done with a lower priority when compared to the console versions, which is a shame.

Yep, no doubt that's what happened. Hopefully the MMO (Copernicus) will be PC first, if not only.

Missing settings that I would like:

1. FOV adjustment
2. Ability to bind mouse buttons (I wanted to make block my thumb button)
3. Camera zoom in/out or more options (shoulder view and one standard view is not enough)
4. Mouse sensitivity adjustment
5. Mouse acceleration on/off
6. Anti-aliasing options

(These were just the ones that popped in my head as I played the beginning)

I'm playing with my controller because it felt too awkward with my mouse. The mouse acceleration needs to be disabled. I manually adjusted my mouse to be less sensitive because it moved the camera so fast in the game, but the problem then became the camera stuttering when I tried to move the mouse slowly.

I also don't care for the "swimmy" feeling the camera has as you turn and run to the sides. If I turn and run to the right, I don't want my character to slip to the right on the screen as if my camera is trying to catch up to him. It feels odd. A setting to disable it would be nice.

[I did slide my monitor as far back on my desk as it would go and that does seem to help a little bit as far as the field of view goes. I also popped a couple Excedrin before I started to play, so that has probably helped.]

Sounds like it could use some patches, although from what I'm reading, it's a lot less broken than similar games of a similar size (*cough skyrim cough*).

With the AA issue, you might be able to force that on using your graphics driver. I think both nVidia and AMD cards have a control panel that lets you force it on. Whether it manages to force the game to do it though, is a bit hit and miss, but might be worth a try if you haven't tried.

And as for mouse acceleration and adjustment, you don't happen to have a logitech mouse do you? Because with their setpoint software, you can setup specific rules for games and have it auto load those rules when the game starts. So you can select Amalur and then tell it you want acceleration on or off and change sensitivity and then load game and bingo. There may be a way to do that with MS and other mice too, but I'm not sure.

Either way, hopefully they'll get a patch out soon.

p.s. I'm gunna buy this soon, but probably at the weekend. I have a big day on Friday and I dont wanna get it yet and end up tired on Friday

There is a setting for mouse sensitivity...I definitely had to turn that down as it was flying all over the place at first.

I did notice some of the camera stutter that you mention...I wonder what's causing that? I know I've got plenty of horsepower on my PC to handle the graphics.
