I swear I looked through the settings a couple times for sensitivity. I'll have to go find that, but I'm pretty much just using the controller now. It feels more natural for this game.
*edit* I know the game seemlessly switches between kb/m and controller with the UI. Perhaps I had last used the controller, so when I looked at the settings the mouse sensitivity wasn't displayed. Just a thought.

I despise the fact that I can not get the demo without some craptacular third party software. So much hate. Flames...on the side of my face...burning.
That removes all possibility that I will even give this a try.

You can get the demo on Steam. You don't need Origin. Is that what you're referring to? Or is Steam the third party software you don't want?

Steam or Origin. Both are third party software. I HATE Steam. Hate, hate, hate. Worst thing that has happened to gaming since the invention of UI mods.

We're polar opposites on that subject. My opinion is that Steam is the best thing to happen to PC gaming in the last decade.

I'm right there with you. I hate the concept that we have to go through them if we want access to our games. When the games stop working, it's a matter of searching through their forums to find clues to technical assistance. All for what?

I'm with Ashe, I've never had an issue with a game on Steam, or access to said games...and honestly I probably retain the ability to play games much longer since I started buying them on Steam. I used to always lose the disks, or the software keys, or my passwords...the games wouldn't be compatible with my new OS or DirectX version... I just pretty much understood that once I'd uninstalled a game, it was probably gone forever.
Steam is great...your library is in the cloud, and you only need to install games you're currently playing. I remove games without worrying about losing access to them because I can't find a disk or key. I remember a single password, and with each new PC or OS, all my games are there. Updates are done automatically...in short, it just makes everything easy.
I suppose if there was ever a problem with my Steam account and I lost access, I would be pretty pissed off...but I'm guessing that's a rather rare occurrence, and truth be told I've already gotten dramatically more play out of the games I've bought through Steam than any games I bought before that, simply because of how easy it is to maintain.
It also doesn't hurt that Steam was created by Valve...one of my favorite and most trusted (in terms of the quality of their products) game companies. I've never had a bad experience with them, in terms of their products or services. I can't say that about very many other companies, if any. I would walk 100 miles to play Half-Life 2 or Portal...so I have no problem using Steam to access those games.
I totally understand that people feel more comfortable having a disk in their hands...a physical object that you "own" (you've never really owned what was ON the disk). I've found that for myself, the tradeoff is a good one. I'm willing to trust Steam to hold my games... not my credit card number, but my games.

They lost my entire library at one point. Could not recreate it, was like my username was deleted.
So much hate for them.
After giving them a second chance, they broke my Borderlands game files. I was trying to zone in to a...zone...and it kept telling me that 'one or more players do not have this zone'. I was alone. When I got the game through other means, it worked fine.
So much hate for Steam. Just let me keep the games that I want to keep without having to install some POS third party software. HATE. I shouldn't have to ask the garage if I can drive my car today.

I hate holding onto disks. I ISOMagic them to .isos as soon as I get them, throw them in my Dropbox for current games or form Dropbox to the server for archived games. I can access them anywhere, anytime without needing to go through junk like Origin. Let *ME* make that decision, don't force it upon me.

Sorry for your bad experience. I have no idea what went on there. I've been using Steam since HL2 and have a library of hundreds of games. I've never had any problem with playing any of them. My only Steam gripe is their Support. The support ticket system is so archaic and it can take days to get a response, and usually the first response is the standard copy/paste where you wonder if they even read your ticket. Fortunately, I average less than a single support ticket per year.

Well, you've obviously got reasons to hate them. lol
I've never had an issue in all the years I've used it. Weird.

Same, although I have seen other people who have had similar issues too. I remember my friend got his account flagged for theft or some crap, and he sorted it out with them on the phone or something but it took over a month to get it working again. So he went for a long time not being able to play any of the games he has paid for.
Although even that isn't as bad as losing them all!

A guy over at WidescreenGamingForums made a fix so you can adjust FOV!
You need this program, WidescreenFixer.
Then you need the plugin file from post 95 in this thread: Post 95
Here is the guy's installation guide in this post: Install Guide
The toggle switch he says to activate when you're in the game is the asterisk key. When you're selecting KOA in WidescreenFixer, make sure you choose the version 1.0.1 (even though the newest version is 1.0.2, this is really the fix for the newest version).
This really does work, but the game does seem to fish-eye really easily. I often put FOV at 90, but it was very distorted in KOA. 75-80 was much less distorted and yet still managed to vastly increase the FOV. It is much more playable now.

From kb/m to controller to kb/m again.
I looked through the settings again and found the camera sensitivity. I think my mind was looking for mouse sensitivity and I just overlooked it. I turned it all the way down and switched to my kb/m. It actually feels much better to be able to free look 360 degrees around my character very quickly. With the controller, I would essentially have to move the whole character with the camera to look to the sides or behind me. That was probably contributing to my headaches.
The FOV fix is incredible. I was even able to bind abilities to my mouse tonight. The game had a patch the other day so maybe that fixed it.
The first few days of this game were really painful. I don't think I've ever been as discomforted playing a game as I've been with this one. I was almost ready to just pack it up. Hopefully the changes I was able to make will get me back into the game. I'll give it a fresh start this weekend.

So the game is much more comfortable, but there is still one thing that's driving me crazy and that's the camera. My beef with the camera is that "floaty/swooshy" movement. When you run any direction, your character goes a ways while the camera sits still and then the camera swooshes after your guy like it's trying to catch up. I'd much prefer the camera to move with my exact directional button presses. That disjointed second or so is messing with me.
Isn't sprint usually L-shift in like every PC game that has sprint? Well in this game they made sprint the L-ctrl button. I'm fine with that. I can just rebind it, right? I go into the control settings and make block my thumb mouse button and sprint L-shift. In the game I go to sprint and my character whips his shield out. What? Somehow it's hard-coded with block and even though I changed it in the settings, it still wants to block. And by the way, thumb mouse will pull my shield out for a second and then put it away, repeating the process indefinitely as I hold the button down.
I wanted to like this game from long ago when I heard the story behind Schilling and his team. I thought, wow, this is a game made by someone who has a love of games, and there's excellent talent taking part. Now it's in my hands and I feel like I got a crappy console port. WTF happened?

Well, this certainly isn't an excuse, but remember this isn't the game made from the ground up by Schilling's team. This game was three years in the making before 38 Studios bought Big Huge Games and adapted the game into their universe. This one is really on the Big Huge Games team.
I think we'll still have to wait for the MMORPG to really see what they've got in terms of game design chops. It is entirely possible it will suck...We all know that a "dream team" certainly doesn't always pan out.
I played for several hours this morning. I'm still finding it fun, and much more accessible than any single-player RPG I've played before. I do agree there are quite a few design annoyances and oversights that never should have been made by an experienced team. It's a cool game, I love the art style...but it's definitely not the "best game evar!" Contender that Curt Schilling was trying to convince us they were going to make.
I was always a lot more interested in the MMORPG, and I still want to see the details once they start releasing them. In short, this game's not so bad that it puts me off my real interest in their bigger project.

I'm really enjoying the game. I think for me, it comes down to the most basic elements. The combat is fun, the moment-to-moment mechanics for doing everything are intuitive and rarely get in the way of play, and the art and music are just beautiful. With those things in place, I find that I actually don't mind the typical WoW-like task grind of all the side quests...I'm actually doing them willingly and getting into each storyline. There's a ton of content, and I may end up actually using much more of it than I typically do just because it's fun to kill stuff.
The controls and camera really didn't end up bugging me...it's been so long since I played anything other than an MMORPG that I don't really have any previous habits to fight against. Once I got a good handle on the UI, I actually really like it for most things...the "junk" system is a fantastic idea...I love being able to keep my loot so organized and dump things I don't want all at once.
There are definitely some bugs with the camera, and the cut scenes are pretty lame in terms of animations. I really wish my character talked. The voice acting has been pretty darn good in my opinion.
Also, chakrams are just flat out awesome. That is all I have to say about that.

I always thought that about RPG's, you spend the majority of your time killing stuff.... So if the combat sucks, then the game is already on a downer as far as I'm concerned. That's why I'm such a big 'h8er' when it comes to the Elder Scrolls games. They have nice worlds and nice graphics and lots of interesting characters and stuff, but when the combat sucks, it kills it for me right away.
When a game has good combat (like Vanguard), it's instantly got the upper hand on me. I am realising that this time, the quests are pretty boring and there are a lot of kill 20 of these and collect 25 of these, but because I'm enjoying playing my 2box so much, I am happy to just get stuck in anyway.
So yeah, I'm looking forward to getting this game. Hope their MMO can do a similar thing.
