I'm making a web site for music (mostly oldies and rock) and I was thinking about putting a forum on there. My main concern is spammers and trolls though, it would be a very small community so just a few bad people could be really disruptive.

Whats the best way to go about getting a forum with the ability to ban people? Do you have to buy forum software or can you get free ones with that kind of functionality? I would ideally like to be able to IP ban people so problem trolls/spammers don't just keep coming back. If its too expensive or too much hassle I wont bother. Thanks in advance

Can't say I know all that much about forum software mmorpeegee. Though I do know vBulletin and phpBB are two popular choices, the latter is free and open source. I've moderated forums using both and have been able to ban just fine
