Default BIG Announcement redux

For some reason, SOE seems to be learn from past mistakes. The new community manager (hmm, just why do they need a new one after the fiascos of the past year?) made an annoucenement to say that players should stand by for a big announcement soon (tm).

I don't understand why they do this, but I will post the details here if they ever announce.

Because stupid little announcements like this are enough to string along the players in hope of some great Vanguard addition. "Keep paying us money and every 6 months or so we'll put out a silly little statement saying we're going to announce some stuff!"

I wonder if some day they will become a case study on how to be the worst business of all time. But I guess they will have been pipped at the post by some insane CEO who fed the company's entire wealth to his pet giraffe.

EA still holds the record for taking a viable game and destroying it.

Isn't that Funcom? Or maybe EA is helping publish. Either way, I'm not hyped for it because I was there when Age of Conan launched. I won't be buying more Funcom products on release.

Oh, for the record, I dont think SWTOR is THAT bad. Not as good as it could be, not as good as it should be, but definitely a honest attempt and quite enjoyable. It just can be summarized as : sorry, guys, thats really impressive amounts of money spent, but you forgot to make a game with a real soul.

MMOs are games that are supposed to be played for years, and SWTOR just doesnt reflect that well enough. Seriously, just some weeks in endgame - and you'll already have the best equipment possible ? And not much time to get there, either.

Thats the problem with all MMOs the past 8 years after WoW. MMO's have just been ok. Mainly because most just wanted to do what WoW was doing and failing. So you got a bunch of mediocre WoW clones (easy mode, fast leveling, little challenge, hold your hand, casual, little to no innovation, games). You play them you go ok that was alright and wait for the next new game. You really aren't challenged or even feel you are missing much if you don't log in. There was no addictive quality to any of them really.

Vanguard could have been that game that broke the mold but it was horribly mismanaged and still is by SOE. EVE also was a game that broke the WoW mold unfortunately I'm not big into the space genre but have dabbled with it.

GW2 has really upped the anti. They have filled their game with innovation. I mean it is a pretty bold move removing the Holy Trinity for a different playing experience. They have underwater battle, mini games in the cities, puzzle dungeons, etc..

I absolutely loved what Vanguard could have been. The World is still the best rendered world I ever played to date. Unfortunately a beautiful world and very well built characters does not a game make. SOE had every opportunity to do the right thing with that game. Instead they just let it slowly die.

I found it funny I looked for my character on VG the other day (after reading this thread) and my character Vordox is still in the top 50 leader boards for necromancers after all this time I have been gone.

Anyway hope to see you all in GW2

But you know , Vangaurd could still to this very day be made into "that game" with just a patch or two. It dosnt need some massive redesign, just rolling back/renigging on several of the stupid moves they made to themselves over the years ,would not take much at all.

It really just takes someone with VISION to go through the patch notes and deleted teh crap silius did since release.

Well...and the things they did in the last six months of beta. They need to remove all of that, too. Then flesh out and finish the original systems. Good to go.

Well thats teh thing. I was very happy with how vanguard was at launch (minus the tech stuff).

It was (and this is what infurates me) the slow, patch by patch, changes they made post launch that bit by bit ruined it.

I screamed and shouted on the boards because I saw where it was going, but next patch would be more...

I'm not talking about rebuilding entire systems, etc. What was in at launch was fine and a very good compromise between old EQ and modern MMO.

Yeah I think it's not TOO far from being a contender too. But I think it's time has passed now, sorry to say. They could have done it all these years, while there was no competition. But with GW2 I have a feeling that the other games are going to struggle to compete. And then next year will be ArcheAge making it even harder again. I am still playing Vanguard by the way, I'm in my third consecutive month which is a first for me, but once GW2 comes I will be gone and I doubt I'll ever go back. They dilly dallied too long in true dumb ass SOE style.

It's on the official forum here:
http://forums.station.sony.com/vg/po...topic_id=56781

But people are saying that Vanguard is not even included in the PSS1 list.

Personally I'm not interested in all these 'announcements' and speculation because nothing ever seems to come of anything. It's one thing to be slow, but SOE have a really bad habit of announcing things that then don't even happen. So I kind of shut myself off from whatever they say now, I will only believe something when I see it happen for real, and most of the time - nothing actually happens I think most people here feel same, and even on the official forum too. In fact most people here have been through this rigmarole for about 5 years and so tired of it they have completely moved on by now. Hence all the excitement for GW2 around here

Yes, the PSS1 comment about VG going f2p and their playcash will be useable with VG is part of quite a long thread. The only answer from SOE is that 1) VG is not part of the PSS1 deal and 2) Euro players will be able to play on any server they want. It's pretty obvious that SOE will NOT comment on the f2p concept; they won't even say it's a misunderstanding.

Not like I didn't see this news coming. Just surprised it took this long. The only way Vanguard could become popular again is if someone bought it cleaned it up,made it better, then re released it under a new name. Otherwise R.I.P VG.
