Actually, that's great news. Been waiting on Vanguard to go F2P for some time. Will be nice to get back in there and try to find what some of you keep raving about.

Yes, I agree, it is good news. Looks like they are really going to put some resources behind it and give it a go. Three directors in place can't be a bad thing.

I knew that f2p was coming.

Wasn't "creative director" the title that SOE gave to Brad when they took over Sigil?

SOE updated the game and evidently pushed in some low-mid level loot that sold for 5-15 g each. Some people were making tens of platinum an hour. In low-mid level areas. SOE shut down the servers, but it's funny to see how they came back and screwed things up.

Humorously, they took two months to make this announcement and then had very few details. Only three names? No dates? I cannot imagine why anyone would pay for the next six months.

What kind of F2P is it? Tiered? Freemium? Cash shop everything? I'm too lazy to go read links.

I'm interested...because if I can play the game reasonably without giving SOE a single dime of my money, I might go back and play a bit.

I always wanted it to go free to play because I like playing it as a 2 box, so the last few months I did that, I had to pay double subcription :/

As for the details I don't think they gave them, it was just one bit of info with a bunch of padding to look like an announcement. But I didn't go hunting for details either because they were talking about it happening around August, which is miles away. And GW2 will be out then too.

As with everything in planet SOE, it's too little and too late.

They did not say. They only said that they expect it to be like EQ2, EQ and DCUO version of f2p.

There's a small chance that I would go back and try the game when it's free, but that's probably around the 5% range.

is it a easy game to 2box in? I always thought there would be way too much button mashing. But I do also want to explore all those hidden dungeons no one ever went to, and that would only be possible 2 boxed at the least.

Yeah it made the game sooo much more fun. I get bored doing solo stuff, but doing dungeons is great. As for how hard, you have to pick the right classes. Some of them would be too hard, like the Blood Mage. But some are pretty easy and work well together. You always lose a bit of efficiency, miss the occasional counterspell or whatever, which you wouldn't do otherwise. But you get good at it with practice, and it helps if you can bind stuff to your mouse or keyboard and make macros.

As much as I enjoyed Vanguard (Crafting,Character builds and the fluid playability)and hated it at the same time (Bugs, crashes, shitty content) I generally have a rule if I quit it I forget it and don't return. I would violate this rule if Vanguard was remade and done right however. I loathe SOE as well.

You aren't new here, do you really believe they are going to "put some resources behind it"? The 3 new devs that are "active" are changing the game model into F2P. They've already announced no new content will be made before it goes F2P and that all new content will be designed around the F2P model.

Here is what happens just based on SoE and how terrible they are. August F2P comes out, meanwhile veteran players continue paying $15 a month for something they know is meaningless. New players and returning players join. People relive the old dungeons. The new players go "wow, this game is going to be sweet". Veteran players show them the best places to get gear, the fastest way to XP. Then, about a month later the new players hit lvl 50, go, "wow this new content is trash" and wonder why they would pay for it. Returning players lose the initial charm of returning to Telon, especially the low lvls, and quit, and the veteran players continue throwing money at any of the F2P garbage SoE pukes into the game. SoE makes no new announcements after releasing a single raid dungeon a 3 overland mobs.

I sense great anger in you...

I think that the F2P will generate a lot of interest. People will spend money in the cash shop and SOE will put more resources into the game as the revenue increases.

To be honest F2P was the only hope Vanguard had of getting any love. Lets just see what happens instead of creating little flights of fancy about "The Veterans" (All 7 of them)

I agree with cshaw419 to be honest. I don't think much will come of the f2p thing, and then without the 100 or so long standing veterens paying subscriptions, the game will die.

Well the announcement on Massively generated over a 100 comments most of which were people who were pretty excited about trying the game. If that's any indicator then it might do well. I dunno, maybe it's wishful thinking and I'd just like to see it do well and get some of the new content and fixes I dreamed about.

Yeah I always wanted that too, but I think they needed to do it in about 2009 or something. I also have seen just how hopeless and shady SOE behave, so I highly doubt they will put anything in to the game - besides whatever is necessary to make it f2p. I think they are just going to try to wring out the last bit of cash they can get for one final year, and then shut it down.

Probably just in time for EQ Next.

They havent had any content since 2009 amirite? Can't believe they would go free to play then add content lol. I have to agree with you cshaw419.

Sometimes I wonder if they only bought it just to stop someone else buying it and turning it in to a great game that SOE could never compete with.

I got accused of wearing a tin foil hat last time I suggested that, but I don't care :P
