Kidding aside...it's the game design I'm in love with. That's not an inanimate object, it's an idea.

And ideas... are bulletproof. And worth loving.
Awww I'm telling!!!! lol.

I see we can preorder starting April 10th and we can get in all the Betas I'm definitely in!!!! Woooot!!!! Looks like a June or July release date! I hate Summer release dates though I'm usually so busy in the Summer.

Where were you reading that? Most stores have had pre-orders up for a long time now...but as far as I know there's still no set date.

Never mind. Saw the thread on GW2guru

Well, I'll likely get the digital edition...I'm not big on paying for the goofy little extras anymore, since there's no way to know if I'll end up sticking with the game.

Very exiting in terms of getting access to the betas...that should be fun.

The system requirements are interesting. They include Intel integrated graphics as a minimum...which means that they are claiming the game should play on a relatively recent system without a video card. That's some pretty great optimization. I wonder how the game will look and perform...probably not great.

It does potentially increase their customer base, though... there are a TON of systems out there with low-end or integrated graphics.

Also interesting that they don't mention RAM in the system requirements...I guess the assumption is that everyone has enough RAM at this point. I wonder if that will turn out to be true.

Based on the "extras" in the deluxe and collectors editions, I think we're starting to see some of the things that will be available in the GW2 cash shop. I'm totally okay with the short-term goblin banker, if people want to pay for that, it's fine with me. Same goes for the guild perks...if people want to pay to get a bit of a boost in their guild advancement, that really doesn't affect me at all, I don't think.

The boost in PvP Glory may be a serious issue for some people, though. I think they are going to have to revisit that. You can't sell something in the cash shop that provides really the only direct comparison between the advancement of players in your game. They even say right in the description...

"Use Glory to unlock rewards in PvP as well as compare your progress with other players"

If you can buy that in the shop, they have stepped well over the line.

Well I'm not a big fan of their graphics anyway and the graphics requirements sorta speak as to why it looks as it does. The french screw up everything! lol

The Pvp Boost (Glory) depending on how it works it shouldn't be a problem. If I am getting the Glory mechanic it is sorta like PvP xp. Some games naturally give you PvP xp boosts for quicker player kills, objectives taken,etc... So I don't see that as being that overpowered say anymore than xp potions. Is there an advantage? Yeah but not game breaking in my opinion unless it is an outrageous amount for a long period of time. If it is like an hour + 15% glory xp thats nothing really.

I am excited about getting in Beta as well yet sad they are making you buy to get in. I was going to buy this anyway. I don't know about the Collectors edition especially since my dvd door has been opening only when it feels like it since the cat and the tea incident. So I don't wanna buy the collectors and be angry my DvD wont open. Digital download I know I can get right away also.

Default GW2 Preorder

You can see the line up here.

A closeup of the CE is here.

Now for some theorycraft:

Preorders start on April 10th. They give you access to every Beta Weekend. They will have at least four beta weekends, first one starting on April 13th. Second one on April 20th, third on April 27th, fourth on May 4th. Release will be on May 15th. Head Start will be on May 12th.

How do I know this? I go on vacation on May 15th.

Sorry for confusion...I didn't know it would add the posts at the top of the thread. I probably did that wrong.

Anyway, I thought that stuff belonged in a pre-order thread much more than in the false alarm thread.

No prices yet. Are they going to go for the new AAA standard of $59.99 for the regular edition, $79.99 for the digital deluxe, and $89.99 for the collector's edition?

I'm not impressed with the digital deluxe items. One time use stuff? Not my cup of tea. I'll probably just stick with the standard edition.

Well, with no subscriptions, I'll be fine paying the $60. It miffed me a little to pay that much for SWTOR and then pay monthly fees on top of that. I should be used to it by now, but it still bugs me.

I know you guys are going to start calling me a broken record...but this makes me a little sad. I definitely want to get the game and try it out in beta, but with the cash shop question still looming (and actually looking a bit more of a concern after this new info), I don't know if I'll be able to buy the game until I know for sure what's in the shop.

I may have to miss out. It would suck even worse if I bought it early, fell in love with it during beta, and then found out at release that I couldn't keep playing because my conscience conflicts with their business model. In a way it seems almost like that's exactly what they are doing...trying to get as many box sales as they can before people find out the bad P2W news. I really wish I didn't have to worry about this. The little voice in my head is telling me it's going to be bad news.

EDIT: As everyone is fond of pointing out...I'm very much excited about this game from design and philosophical standpoints. It would really bug me to never play. However, I truly believe that if the cash shop goes too far, I wouldn't enjoy the game for very long, anyway. So, despite the overwhelming desire to secure my spot in the beta so I can try the game out, I think I'm going to hold off until they announce what's in the shop. You guys will have to tell me how the game is.

Well...I suppose I can hope and pray they release good news in the next month or so. Then I could go ahead and get the pre-purchase. In the end, it IS still just a game. If I don't play, life will go on. I'll be looking for news about Copernicus.

The little voice in my head says that as evil as all companies are these days, they know deep down that there are just too many people who would go ape shit about a Pay2Win model, and it would get so blown up on the web too, they would end up practically public enemy. For that reason alone, I can't see them doing pay2win.

They may surprise me though, but hopefully not. I also am in or out based entirely on how they deal with that, but there's only like 5 people posting in this thread and I think most of them would bail if they took the dark path, so that's not a good ratio from their point of view. Again, making me think that they will likely want to avoid making thousands or millions of people steer clear of the game.

I guess the bottom line is, is losing say 20% of your audience really worth it for the ability to milk most of the remainder?

If they thought they could make up that lost revenue with the cash shop then they probably would go through with it.

What I think is likely is that they won't launch with the store more than cosmetics. The real twist is after the initial rush of box sales goes down, they will probably start tweeking the online store. The store at launch will probably be very different than the store at launch plus three months.

With the possibility of easy changes in the store, what will you do at launch?

If they are offering limited use xp boosts and personal bankers with preorders then you're all but guaranteed those are in the cash shop.

I bet. It probably depends on the % of players who would avoid the game. I said 20% but I'm guessing it's not even that high. And even if it was 20%, that's only 20% paying for the game box, not a subscription or anything... So could the remaining 80% make up for the loss of those box sales? I'm guessing they could by not even spending all that much.

So basically, I've talked myself in to being worried

Yeah that's the big question. They could release with nothing but cosmetic items in the store, then millions of us rush out and buy the game, and a month down the line they start selling +50 to all stats potions for $20 a go We might end up just having to buy it and hope for the best. Or just not play at all.
